The huge fallacy in comparing the current Celtics to ANY TEAM is that they have three HOF 20 ppg players playing defense. Not two 20 ppg scorers and a bunch of role playing defenders who barely average 10 ppg.

You get the offense first and THEN put together good TEAM defense.

DING DING DING !!!! WE HAVE A WINNER......

I will take a great offensive player who is mediocre on defense over a great defender who is mediocre on offense every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

There's this other guy we have, Yao Ming, that we can maybe possibly run our offense through as well. Also, at this point, I can't believe that Maggette will put significant pressure off Tmac. Bonzi Wells wasn't able to do that, and this guy scored at will against the Spurs a couple years back. I don't see Maggette being any more effective.

And undersized power forwards with toughness and dunking and a JUMPSHOT I think are much harder to find. I really believe Landry isn't your normal everyday forward.

I can only read so much craziness. I'm assuming ur kidding, right? Do u know how hard it is to put up numbers ona bad team? By ur acct, when the rox couldn't win a game when tracy was out, but yao was putting up numbers, that doesn't count either, right?

What corey possibly going to the spurs tell me is what I've been saying, this team is no closer to a ring than denver, gsw, phoe, or dallas. This team isn't just health or a tweak away. Call me a troll or morey hater, but players are telling us that. This team needs a major shakeup period! I like DD's idea of getting Hinrich. I think they should do that now and on a separate deal get Deng. Jackson, Head and a 1 might can get it done. Whatever it takes to get quality players around tracy and yao should be a priority. Brent Barry or resigning landry isn't going to cut it in the brutal west.

um we haven't even gotten past the first round. even if we didn't have the landry problem, how would morey convince maggette to come here rather than the spurs?

let's be real. nobody big time wants to be here to be a 3rd scorer unless it's mike miller b/c he's best friends with tmac. artest would rather go to the lakers and corey would rather go to the spurs.

While Spurs picks up Corey, we are trying to collect their retirees. Way to go!

Why does everyone think Morey is some god that can acquire any player he wants... Maybe Maggette has been contacted by the Rockets and doesn't want to play here. You shouldn't be mad considering all the other teams who Maggette probably looked over.

If Morey could get Deng for Jackson, Head and a 1, then he would be gm of the year. Word out of Chicago is they want to resign Deng and keep him. If they need cap space, they can sign nobody. If they need a draft pick, they won't go for a Rocket's pick at the bottom of the draft in the 20's. A Luol Deng would guarantee the pick would be lower than the 25th pick we had this year.

Jackson, Head and a 1st would get you half of Baron Davis' beard, not Deng. If they want cap relief they don't even have to sign him. That 1st rounder is basically useless to the Bulls since they're already stocked up on young talent.

Don't forget though, Maggette has never played for a winning team, and while I would eschew this kind of argumentation in most cases (ergo T-Mac has never passed the first round) in this case I think it matters because, as others have said, Maggette is 1.) injury prone, and 2.) not so good at team basketball. His style is "umma do me" basketball. Sure he fits a need for us in terms of 6th man penetration cabilities, but he doesn't have much of a long range shot either.

If you asked me to choose between Landry and Barry vs. Maggette for the same money, I'd choose the former.

Of course there is the added temptation to want to continue PUNKing San Antonio, but maybe Buford knows this and is just leaking rumors about charging after Maggette so the Rockets will overpay for him and get stuck in a longterm deal with the New Bonzi Wells.

This team is not a Robert Horry or Brent Barry or a healthy Landry away from winning a Championship. This team needs to add a legitimate third star/scorer, an upgrade at the point, and a younger backup for Yao.

Anything else is just a bunch of sideways motion.

The Rockets should be terrified of SA landing Maggette.

I think Morey should wait for all these teams, Spurs, Lakers, Pistons, Celtics, Magic, Clips, etc., wait for them all to make their moves. Then he knows what he has to beat. He may be able to trump them all by trading for Vince Carter after they all snag their players and make their trades. I am convinced if we were able to add Vince Carter to our core of 111, Battier, Scola, Rafer, and either Landry or Dorsey, that we would trump all the rest of the teams, both defensively and offensively.

Morey is not god. He is excellent in getting the most with limited resources but I am afriad that he is not determined enough to make impactful but risky move to bring us a ring. Moves like Shaq and his contract to the Heats or 3 x 30 something HOFers to the Celtics.

We'd make alot more process trying to pry away Artest or VC in a sign and trade who we at least know how much money they will be making. Rather than waste time on Maggette, who plays for the love of the game and just needs the MLE. If so, than it shouldn't take him long to find Boston on a map, since that's his best chance of winning by going to the champs and are from the East making the playoffs easier, essentially only one real round.

Get the negotiations started ASAP for 1 of the 2 above and be sure to throw in Battier for salary. Also we'd be fools to think by trading Landry we couldn't get over the hump if he's a deal breaker. Keeping him sure won't get us over it. But, i don't have a love affair with Battier and Landry like so many that want them untouched. I just want to win now!

How many times have you heard since the end of the season they would be looking to imrove their team via TRADE. Simply b/c they do not have the cap room to make a big splash via free agency.

This is the typical free agency. The big dogs are locked up by lousy teams with money, the smart teams wait and go after the 2nd or 3rd wave of more affordable decent/role players. And that is what we will get eventually. Free agency has just begun.

And yeah, the fact that the Spurs HAVE WON multiple championships will entice some players to go there. For all the talent the Rockets have, they haven't won squat in 10 years, so Morey can't use that card.

No. The Rockets are WAYYY over the salary cap right now, so renouncing the rights to their few free agents (right now, only Deke and Landry) would have no effect on their ability to sign other free agents.

Because Elton Brand and Maggette both opted out of their contracts and became free agents, the Clippers went significantly under the salary cap. However, Maggette's cap hold was occupying much of that space that would be used to sign Baron Davis. In order to get Davis in the fold, the Clips have to renounce Maggette's right and let him go. No S&T possibilities with the Clippers.
