I doubt if he had any. Morey needs to make amends with the coaching staff, and get rid of the players who are unwilling and afraid to step up to the plate. If he can't do that, he doesn't need to be here. I appreciate the good work that he has done, but he has made mistakes too.
Of course I am. What other GM has gotten two superstar caliber players without ever having a top 5 pick... You act like the team he inherited was going somewhere. Teams like the Kings, Bucks, Bobcats etc have been rebuilding for years and aren't even close to winning a title.
Lurch might have been his guy to teach and help rebuild, then things changed when it became a win now deal. But I HAVE to believe letting Gogi walk to sign Lin was all Les...ties into his preexisting interests. Asik is a Moreyesque move and also a backup plan of sorts if we didn't get Dwight. It was and is definitely a fluid situation. So, the next step of "the plan" becomes somewhat clearer...But who is our next coach? In the offseason we bring in Melo or Love and another PG to go with Bev. Bring in still capable vets who want a ring on the cheap to fill out the roster. And all possible because of our magnificent b*stard.......while Les smiles in the background. Somebody needs to throw up a Heath Ledger image.......
Morey ball works great with the right coach... Rick got us far with his stars out. Morey ball however doesn't work if a coach can't get the most out of his players. Losing Rick was the biggest blunder Morey and Les made. That said. The Morey ball is good. It gave us the financial flexibility to get two stars... Well.. one at least.
err Morey isn't the coach... he got Harden, Howard - All stars!! parson, t jones, lin, pat - starters in this league!!!
We need Rick to come back and coach this stacked team we're going to have. It wouldn't shock me if it happened. The conspiracy theorist in me.
Rick implemented his version of the princeton offense, I'm not sure where you are getting that crap from, Rick's team didn't run the offense which you call "Moreyball" , the offense that our team tries to run and the offense that our Dleague runs completely.
Morey finished tied for 3rd in the NBA Executive of the Year award last year and figures to be top 3 again this year.
he isn't at any risk for being fired, but people on here pretend that he is immune from criticism. Might as well call us fans of the Houston Moreys if any criticism of him is met with such backlash.
Fire McHale? Maybe. Fire Morey? You must be smoking the good stuff. I gotta know, are you in Washington or are you in Colorado right now?
people are so fickle, a little less than a year ago when we got dwight morey was called the greatest GM that ever lived. smh
I'd go so far as to say Daryl Morey is the most important figure in Houston sports. Even J.J. Watt will age and retire. Morey could (and hopefully will) be here for decades.
Maybe you're right in that some people celebrated too early, when things looked good on paper. But let me ask you, if playoff wins are not the ultimate measure of success, then what is?
Is that you, Morey? Seriously, I always thought Morey picked McHale for the rebuilding transition. Who had thought Morey could turn the entire team over in merely two seasons? Probably not even Morey himself. I think McHale's mission has accomplished. Time to get a quality coach to compete.
Tell me about it. Talking about Morey appears to be sacrilegious on here. Like I said in the opening post of this thread, I would be interested to see how this team does with some tweaks and under a better coach before Morey gets the ultimate boot. But if Rox finish fizzling out in this year's playoffs and fizzle out again next year in an early exit, why shouldn't Morey be on the hot seat? Assembling talent but it not translating to any significant playoff success should not cut it in the big picture moving forward. That was my main point of throwing this thread out there.
