We're all well aware of that I think. That doesn't change the fact that he's a great rebounder/shot blocker. And he's still pretty young.

Studdog, as i've said before, dallas can always trump the rockets deal because they have talent, salaries, and a willing owner. Lets say your dream came true and toronto wanted to deal bosh. Other than being a rockets fan, the mavs combo of howard, dampier, gooden, and willingness to take a unwanted contract would trump a mcgrady and whomever the rox would offer. Toronto would get a free look at 2 players right now and could sell their fans they're staying flexible and trying to make the playoffs this year. Not to mention those contracts can be flipped for 25% up or down of those contract again before the deadline. Once a team gets mcgrady's contract, its a wrap.

Like i've said, show me that 7m free agent and mle player this offseason who will be boderline all star. Butler, for what you think of him is a good shooter, good defender, good passer, and tough guy. He's way better than any wing on the roster and was a all star playing in this system. The reason he's in dallas and not houston is because dallas took stevenson. Now u may think stevenson is a scrub and have a horrible contract, but his contract is very flippable. His contract is probably easier to move than shane's. Collecting assetts as the scrub DD likes to say . The rockets have some good assets, but their salaries are so low that you have to add a couple together to get to the player they might want.

    no, you don't get it.

i'm not sold on a 7m dollar player and a draft pick. i see those two as points of opportunity, but you don't get it.

during the draft we could trade, for free agent, we could make a good low cost acquisition, and at next year's trade deadline, we will have a very nice mix of talent to value with an overload at the three. we should be able to make a nice acquisition then.

teams may be in buyer's remorse at that time and we should know whether yao is making it for the season. and i do like the draft for a couple players that i think are solid young talent and would fit this team and keep our young core growing.

btw, i do think we could have topped a mavs trade for bosh (mcg, landry, bud and a 1st for Bosh, Turk) but again you missed the point. i was hoping for several sellers in the market and all key sellers have become content to stay.

Getting locked in for the next 5 years at $9 mil per for a guy who in a reasonable best case scenario would be your backup center would seem like a pretty poor allocation of resources.

In that situation you would also probably end up being forced to let both Scola and Landry walk if you are going to commit to Randolph the kind of money he is supposedly going to be looking for.

The pieces you are getting back aren't bad. Its just that they are about the worst fit imaginable for this current team. And even then, I think Golden State could do better if they want to move those guys.

How successful would those past Mavs teams do without Dirk? That is the point.

I've already said that Cuban has been willing to mix and match players around Dirk, and kudos to him, it does expose him to not knowing much basketball putting Antoine Walker and Jamison alongside Dirk. That worked out well for the Mavs so much they were shipped out shortly thereafter.

But all that wheeling and dealing would be moot if Nellie did not steal Dirk on that draft, Cuban would probably chasing other teams stars irregardless of what they can actually bring to the table.

I can understand a lot of members here having wet dreams about having Cuban as an owner, he likes to wheel and deal despite not knowing much about basketball, fits the mentality of many here to a T.

Where did you hear Randolph would be commanding a lot of money?? He's still under contract for one more year after this year as well. And why would we have to let Landry and Scola walk? Randolph's natural position is small forward anyway. With Biedrins we would have THE best backup center in the league, and he would take a lot of pressure off of Yao, which will be very beneficial with him coming off of surgery. And Morrow.....the guy can just straight up shoot the lights out. Perfect 2 guard playing with Yao. Battier would have to be gone of course though :(

While I think your post has a certain kind of logic to it, DM did not in any way "raise McGrady's value".

In fact all the Rockets have done is lower Tmac's value. Think about this:

*There are three assets involved when tmac started the season: Tmac the player, Tmac the contract and insurance payments made to cover Tmac's salary.

*The catch was you could only have two of those assets at a time: either Tmac the contract and Tmac the player, or Tmac the contract and the insurance payments which cover Tmac's contract.

*The smart thing to do would be to either play Tmac meaningful minutes and drive Tmac the player's value up, or not play Tmac at all, thereby preserving the insurance payments the team receives.

*Instead what we did was play Tmac for 45 mins the entire season (thereby enimilating the insurance payments), but then bench him afterwards, flatlining Tmac the player's value. There was literally no reason for doing this, if they weren't committed to giving Tmac PT then why bother playing him at all. Terrible handling IMHO, and considering DM seems a very logical guy I can only point the finger at Rick the Ruler Adelman  Seems way too vindictive for a "player's coach" to me...

I'm glad we are all aware of that. Wasn't meant as a knock at you or anyone. I was surprised at it. I knew he was bad, just not that bad. And he's young, but his contract is too big I think. The Rockets should only take him on if a trade like this went down.

And for those that didn't like my proposed trade, then how about this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhwro8o

True, however, Tracy brought his benching on himself. They were bringing him back slowly, and they weren't going to play him 8 minutes for the rest of the season. His minutes would have increased, but he opened his mouth, complained, and became the odd man out. Letting the young guys grow is more important than helping him get a new contract.

There is NO WAY GS is giving up Ellis that easily! NO WAY!......NO WAY! In the trades you mention above, the Warriors are giving up their entire future pretty much (except for Curry), for junk! Sure there may be a couple expiring contracts, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that will persuade them.

I don't think he waited too long. Morey just knows what he wants and doesn't want to set the team back years by giving up integral pieces of our core just for the sake of making a deal. Plus, as any business man knows, as I am one myself, the best offers are made at the 11th hour. Yes, you take a risk at not landing anything, but he knows that in this case it's a win-win situation. Either the right deal comes along and he jumps on it, or he sits Mcgrady's butt on the bench and watches 23 million dollars come off the cap this summer and stretches that money in free agency and/or picks a gem(s) from the rough in the draft. He didn't wait too long...either the right deal hasn't come along yet or he just knows the best thing to do is preserve that financial flexibility to use at the right time

Google is your friend. Go back and figure out why Golden State started to think about trading him in the first place.

Because you've just commited to a $9 million backup center, and you have to plan for the big pay raises to Randolph and Morrow (assuming you traded for them to keep them). That is, unless you want to pair your $9 million backup center with a pair of $8 million or $9 million backup power forwards, and run some d-league guys out there as your starter at PG and SF, and d-league backups at the rest of the positions. What is the record for vet minimum guys on a single team?

A 6-10 shot blocker who can't shoot from range, has average ball handling and passing skills, and whose offensive game is on the post? Not my definition of a small forward. He is more of a center than a small forward.

And his $9 million contract combined with other financial issues would mean that we would have below average starters filling out the rest of the roster. Having a guy locked in as a backup as the second highest payed player on your team isn't a luxury. It is poor personnel management.

And since he's so great, you're going to have to figure out how to pay him after this season. And since you have Yao Ming at $16ish million, $9 million for Bedneris (nearly 1/2 your cap space), and then you extend for Randolph for what he wants, and give Scola and Landry fair market value, you have about $1.50 left.

You seem to be forgetting that we can still go over the salary cap! $1.50 left for what??? We can spend as much as our owner lets us, as long as we have the players rights.

Very kind of you to volunteer for Les to go into the Luxury Tax when most owners try like the plague to avoid it. And you aren't talking about inching past the threshold. When all is said and done, you would probably set some sort of record.

Can I also assume you will be proffering forth funds to pay for it?

The first one is the only trade I'd make to take your gut Biedrins. The second one is realistic. I'd give them Budinger if Randolph could play the three more. Or just leave them Randolph.

Perhapes Rox could be after the best back-up PG Hinrich and best back-up center Biedrins? No?

Are you familiar with Richard Jefferson? That's what Caron Butler looks like already. His athleticism is on the decline. The Mavericks are in win-now mode and picking up Haywood means they can use their other big chip, Dampier's expiring contract. It makes sense for them. For the Rockets, it would not make sense to add players, or picks to Washington for those players. Morey is stockpiling assets with cap flexibility to make a big trade. It worked in Boston and will work in Houston.

    Oh why yes of course!

No, I seriously doubt Randolph could command so much money. Same goes for Morrow. Biedrins is a bit over paid, yes, but 9 million a year for a guy who 2 years straight was a pretty much guaranteed double double every night, along with a couple blocks, isn't such a bad contract.
