I believe the DJ is the better player and fit for this team. However, based on the contractual situations (DJ has a guaranteed one if he's on the opening day roster), my guess is that they either keep Wafer or waive both and try to sign DJ to a lesser one-year contract. Sucks that the economy has put our owner in a bind, but it is what it is.
Takes way more than Luther to get this dun... would love Sean on our team though... maybe a our 2010 lottery protected pick and add Luther for Sean and a NJ 2nd rounder?
I think it's going to be unfortunate if only one of the two get to stay. They have both played their asses off and paid their dues and deserve the chance to build a career here. I wish there was some way to keep them both. I would much rather have either one of them than Steve Francis or Luther Head. Also... I have absolutely no faith at all that Tracy McGrady will make it through this season without injury. We would be crazy not to keep a guy like Von Wafer as insurance for when the inevitable occurs. Does sending Doresy to D-league counts as a roster spot on the rockets? Because i think Morey said he is not ready to contribute this year. Therefore we can send dorsey to DL and use his spot to sign deke and keep both DJ and VW. We need a deep bench in 10 to 12 players rotation. Rest are insurance. Alston/brook/head Tmac/Barry Artest/Shane Scola/Landry/Hayes Yao/(7 ft) As much as I like Deke, I don't know if he can all season long plus the playoffs in 10 to 15 mins.
No team is going to have four extra roster spots to do a 5 for 1 trade. So if it did happen the other team is just going to have to turn around and cut a bunch of guys which makes no sense when the key player you get in the trade is Luther or Francis. I still dont see how so many people call Luther junk, and that he is a liability that we must get rid of, and then think somehow we are going to get a lot in return like three second round picks.
the reason why von even got 1/2 of his open looks are due to AB. AB >>> von or dj. Also, Dj maybe able to defend, but not better then shane, artest, or even tmac. I am all for signing them, but we really have no roaster spots open.
I'm not drinkin it, theres a reason these guys are team hoppers, but young talent wouldnt hurt you know...just in case.
maybe nets will take both luther and deke for williams. With him and dorsey, the team will be dynamic.
Von Wafer= Fools Gold (the tim thomas of shooting guards) There is a reason he has bounced around the league. He is dumb and doesnt pass. He is also a bad teammate. He has some use as a scorer but not here. Many people are going to be rattled when Luther is in the rotation again. The thought of cutting him and keeping a scrub like wafer is hilarious.
I wish I could reach through my screen and just slap the guy on the other side when I read things like these. Wafer better than Head? Seriously? I'm not on Heads nuts or anything, he's a third string SG now that Barry is on the team, and probably wont get playing time with Tmac out (unless Battier is out for significant time too), but he's still better than Wafer.
Uhhhh, what? You're comparing the Lakers acquiring Trevor Ariza and Pau Gasol to us keeping Von Wafer and DJ Strawberry? Do you understand the logistics of an NBA team? You can't just accumulate talent at one position.....you have to disperse the talent evenly. True depth comes from having legitimate threats at every position on the court at all times....not having 7 guards that all need playing time. There is a LARGE possibility that we cut both of them, let alone keeping just one. Keeping both is completely out of the question, and it would make NO sense for Les to cross into the luxury tax for a player like DJ Strawberry.
