The Rox will win a championship long before the Texans ever will. The main reason is that Morey is clearheaded about who he has on his roster and what he needs to win a championship. The Texans continue to think Matt Schaub is a championship-caliber QB LOL.
It's stuff like this and the pathetically quiet "home games" that the Rox suffer through that really makes me wish the Rox moved to a city that cared about basketball and didn't treat it as a red-headed stepchild. Eff Houston (when it comes to basketball relations, not the city itself, which I'm told is a great place to live).
How many times have the Rox made the playoffs during the last decade? How many times have the Texans made the playoffs during the last decade? How many people in America remember two Rox players from that time stretch? How many people in America remember two Texans players from that time stretch? How many times have the Rox been on national TV during that decade? How many times have the Rox been on national TV (MNF, SNF) during that decade? The Texans have been irrelevant, don't fool yourself.
I promise you Morey doesn't care. You think he wants to waste his time calling in to a sports talk radio show. He will do it at times of course, but he most likely turns down plenty of interviews with them.
I agree that 790 hosts know and care a lot more about the Rockets than other station hosts do. Even before one station lost their radio flagship status... But let's be a bit fair here also. This is the hierarchy of Rockets knowledge in town. 0. Clutch 1. The better posters on Clutchfans 2. MattJ 3. The average posters on Clutchfans 4. Adam Wexler 5. Below average posters on Clutchfans 6. LanceZ and Charlie with their different specialties (football scouting and sports history, respectively) 7. _____ Only Fans on Clutchfans 8. Average radio show callers (IQ 65) 9. Other local sports radio talk hosts with their specialties (celebrity birthdays and American Idol, apparently)
Also, one of my favorite Morey tweets ever (he's good buds with MattJ, Adam, and Lance on twitter): <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Lance, Don't pretend U R watching the Rockets w/NFL draft only 3 months away RT @<a href="https://twitter.com/lancezierlein">lancezierlein</a> I heard Jerry Sloan was actually at the game?</p>— Daryl Morey (@dmorey) <a href="https://twitter.com/dmorey/status/296113653697114112">January 29, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Morey could care less I'm sure. Yeah he's at the forefront of the whole moneyball movement and is probably one of the more outspoken GM's in the league but these interviews are contractual and their is little payoff from doing them.
maybe the reason noone calls up to talk about the Rox is because Rox fans know how to read and write and save our frustrations for GARM.
yes... Because Texans fans don't know how to read and write. For Houston: 1.Texans 2.Rockets 3.Astros 4.Dynamo Astros / Rockets can be switched....or tied. This city lives for football. Which should be obvious with the franchise having sellouts since its inaugural season.... Even when the Texans sucked....the city was all over them. Rockets....and Astros? not so much. Only the die hards follow them. And then there is that whole CSN debacle.... as for this.....lol.
The ones that call in and actually want to talk about the Rockets make people in the GARM look smart.
I know many of you guys are Texans fans also, it's just that this stepchild treatment gets old sometimes. All this focus on a 10-6, maybe 11-5 team next year that will be one and done, while ignoring one of the better run NBA franchises is aggravating from the viewpoint of someone who only cares about the Rox
I bet D. Morey has some sweet tickets to the game Sunday. I wonder who he thinks is going to win? Personally Im going for Ray ray and for Barry's Warners favorite knuckle head, Jocobe Jones!!!
After the end of the interview with J.J. Watt, the host thanks Morey for working with them regarding this special guest situation. He promised to bring back Morey to discuss Rockets afterwards. In good sportsmanship, Morey tried making conversation with Watt - talked about buying his father a J.J. Watt jersey. But the host only allowed that exchange once, then he took over the interviewers position. And that was it for Morey.
I think part of it is if you asked most any sports radio guy to give you some insight in to the game besides cursory and superficial details about the Lakers, Celtics, Heat or Knicks, you'd be SOL. If you want to talk hoops, you go to the blogs, not the radio.
