Wow I thought Kevin Martin was off the table... this trade is definitely out of left field. In other words, a typical Morey trade. I am really high on Kevin Martin and his shooting will help us tremendously. Our team needs a pure SG more than anything and Morey got exactly that.
people are just so used to Morey stealing ROLE PLAYERS and don't realize you have to give something for a legit Scorer like K-Mart.
Yeah. Carl Landry = 6th man, best player off the bench K-Mart = legitimate starter, 2nd option on contender/co-option on team filled with legit roleplayers PG: Lowry SG: K-Mart SF: Ariza PF: Scola C: Yao 6th man: Brooks Contenders baby!!
what if ? morey will set kevin martin(HE IS NOT K-MART) to the suns for amare ? with some adds.. its a dream but who knows ..
No kidding. You know McGrady will read visit this forum before every game he plays against us, just for extra motivation.
Martin will be a great player for Houston. Landry... we have Scola to replace him. With this move, maybe Andersen ends on his natural positin: PF, another thing that would be good. We would have that shooting PF that Yao needs. I like the trade, a lot.
Scola game is based in his very high basketball IQ, fundamentals and will to hustle, not in atleticism (the first thing lost with age). Besides he has a VERY durable body, have you notices he has not missed one single game due to injury since arriving to NBA, despite how he hustles? Players with the body and style of Scola can easily play at his best until his late 30's, so, we shouldn't be that worried about Scola's aging, when he's still 29, don't you think?
I think the strategy behind the deal is to acquire an explosive slasher who can attack the basket. Lowry and Brooks are the real slashers on this team but they are handicapped by height. Martin is our tallest slasher and also has excellent athletic ability and youth going for him. Ariza also has good slashing ability when he puts his mind into it. I think our ability to penetrate is strengthened by the acquisition of Martin. You need this type of ability in close playoff games where drawing fouls could spell the difference between victory and defeat when defenses tighten up on the perimeter.
I think this will turn out to be a very good deal if NY pulls the trigger on McGrady in a 3-way deal. The reality was that the Rockets were going to have to give up either Landry or Scola eventually since both were going to get big money on their next contract. As great a scorer Landry is off the bench he isn't as good a fit starting next to Yao as Scola is. Plus Scola is a natural team leader where Landry prefers to let his play do the talking. If the Rockets get Jordan Hill to back up Scola we still should get good production from the 4 spot and allow the Rockets to give Scola a contract extension. Plus we will have an extra pick to let Morey do his draft magic with. The only reason this trade was announced last night was to compel the Knicks to pull the trigger today. So I'm guessing they will do just that.
