I dunno know, Houston will have depth, while Boston will be signing undrafted 2nd round prospects just to complete a team with those 3 max contracts. I say Houston has more bench and a better all-around team.
It should about time the projects on their team turn into players, KG, Ray, and Pierce might be able to get to the finals playing 3 on 5 but they can't win them
Damn. I've got to agree with this analysis. Clutch didn't even mention the fact that the NBA from the top down has (for better or worse) been wanting desperately for its historic teams to regain some prominence, and Boston returning as a legit power in the east would certainly do that. It all boils down to who has the better record and/or goes deeper in the playoffs.
Danny Ainge? I don't think so. This experiment had better work out, because he just mortgaged basically the entire youth and future of his franchise for two allstars (Jeff Green, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, 1st round pick). It's easy to go ga-ga over the big three, but they have no depth beyond their starting five (which doesn't even seem complete at the moment), and they still don't have an NBA-caliber coach. I'd expect them to make the playoffs just because they're in the East, Danny Ainge won't impress me unless he manages to perform some real magic himself and create depth out of thin air (like the way Morey produced Scola). Until that happens, those two should not be mentioned in the same sentence.
I Hope and believe that Morey deserves the title...but its hard to argue if the Boston Celtics get KG that Ainge shouldnt win it..Houston was already a pretty good team that over achieved some would say..but still i think rockets win total will only increase maybe 6 or 7 to 58 or 59 wins...but Celtics could has a great increase in wins and prolly will win the voters with that..i ono GO ROCKETS = )
Ainge would take the lead. And you would think that Garnet would seriously consider going to the EC, as his chances there would be greater. DD
it ALL comes down to RESULTS. i think if we end up w/ a top 3 record and say the celts have the best east record, morey has the better chance b/c the rockets play in a MUCH tougher conference. but who cares if morey wins what. all that matters is if the rockets win the championship. i don't care if alston gets traded and win the MVP.
Completely agree. And don't forget about the east coast bias. Ainge has already sewn it up if all the reports are true. I'm okay with it, though. I would rather have a winner on the floor than an award in our executive suites...
Morey has slain some pretty good-sized dragons over the summer.....but, Ainge bagged the biggest, so he's the new leader in the clubhouse. They are already working on a 4 year extension for KG. I was wondering why he pulled off the Ray Allen deal, but now it all makes sense. It was a way to keep Pierce happy and entice KG. Who cares if they lose Al Jeffeerson. Jefferson would be lucky to be half the player KG is. That team looks so scary good right now. It's no longer a given that you win the west and automatically beat on a cupcake team like the Cavaliers. So, who's on their supporting cast? Is their owner willing to pay the luxury tax? That's 52 million between 3 players.
So, in order for the Celtics to win ANY game, KG, Pierce, and Allen must play ALL 48 minutes. Man, the Celtics' 2nd unit is now atrocious. Like five-Ryan-Bowens-running-around-on-the-court bad.
Everyone keeps saying they don't have anything beyond 3. Well excuse me, there was a time when we had nothing but TWO and we won 50+ games in the West. Three stars who can still all put up 25ppg is no joke. Not to mention they are well rounded. Pierce and Garnett are pretty good defenders. Garnett and Allen are good passers. Garnett can hit from inside to midrange, Pierce cant hit from everywhere, and Allen can drain long-range J's all day. They will have Kendrick Perkins who's a capable starting C. They will either have Telfair or Rondo still on the team, and one of them can play a good 20-25 minutes. Basically, the Celtics have to sign a PG and a C for depth. Don't they still have their full MLE?
Exactly. Thank you. I will be more than happy to present Ainge's EOY trophy, and any other rotisserie-esque BS anybody wants to tabulate, right after we hoist the one that matters.
They still have Rondo and Tony Allen (who averaged 11 points last year). Kendrick Perkins is a good rebounder and is pretty solid. They have their draft picks of Glen Davis and Pruitt. Actually, their teams looks really good. That starting lineup is just amazing. Celtic fans must be on cloud 9. In the east, that group would really dominate. They might not have the depth of some of the teams in the West, but against Eastern foes....they look more talented than the Bulls or Pistons. Bulls lack a genuine superstar or a post scorer. Pistons don't look that intimidating anymore wihtout Ben Wallace.
It's even better... they started out in the MLB, I think. Ainge played some for the Blue Jays. I think Morey was with the Red Sox or something.
