No , Morey didn't do well. Just look at nest year , its gonna be Harden & 4 dudes from the local YMCA.
If Chris Paul can get close to last years level, I think we have a better team than what we finished with last season. But if he’s old or injured, well there wasn’t a player available that was going to help us overcome that. Harden is going to have to be super Harden in the playoffs. The best player the Rockets can acquire is someone they already have on their roster.
Morey’s offseason additions obviously didn’t work out as planned.... obviously, since none are left on the roster. That being said, he managed to successfully move all of those guys and pick up guys off the scrap heap who have contributed to this team and also get us out of the luxury tax which will allow more flexibility moving forward. Our bench at the beginning of the season consisted of: Brandon Knight, James Ennis, Marquese Chriss, and Melo Our bench when Capela returns will include: Gordon, Faried, Austin Rivers,Iman Shumpert, and likely Danuel house. Possibly a buyout candidate as well. Fact is, our team is better after the deadline than it was in November. Depending on Shumperts fit, and considering Faried was basically a perfect fit(especially for the second unit when Clint returns) we have a chance to make noise and stay flexible for the future. Everyone hates the luxury tax moves but why would we want our team to be restricted moving forward with people like Brandon Knight making 15 mil a year? It’s all good man. We improved and can compete on the court, and in the offseason to make more moves. Morey did great.
Rivers, Faried happened unexpectedly. We were lucky and should attribute their success on this team so far to Harden and Coach. House ... he is no longer with the team and we don't know when he will return at all. So the only controlled move was Shump, but it took so many steps though. The argument is always could we have done better than this with Harden peaking this season.
The Warriors + Boogie are a massive mountain to climb. The Rockets have as good a chance as anyone at challenging them. Morey improved the team (slightly), improved the $$ position of the franchise and gave up draft collateral which isn't crucial when looking at a team trying to contend. While not WOW moves, moves of a competent GM. My only concern really is that Morey is not well liked by other GMs and that is hampering our manoeuvrability
At this point I’d be more excited if we cut Nene and signed an up-n-coming d-league player in the mold of Troy Daniels or Covington.
damn, I had forgot all about the “Melo is the answer against GS” posts last summer this offseason was so bad, holy sh*t
That isn't necessarily true. They will likely use the their Bird Rights on Shumpert, which would mean that the top 6 players are back again. I am sure the non-tax payer exception and bi-annual exception will be used as well. It isn't ideal but it is a far better situation than this season.
Right. So Cp3, Capela and EG's injuries are all Morey's fault but Faried, Rivers and now Shumpert signings are all due to luck, Harden, MDA, the ball boy, Clutch the bear, Clutch the site owner and DD. Man, I tell you Morey just keeps wasting Morey's prime. He better do something soon!
Post more often please. These "my pee-pee hurts" fans are everywhere and I enjoy reading common sense. The facts are Tilman told Morey if the move is there go for it he'll pay the tax. He's not cheap. Morey decided it wasn't there ATM so he found an opportunity to get flexibility for next season and give Shump a shot with this squad over Ennis. It's not over, nobody crowned the Warriors today, the bench will be too deep for the play-offs if he gets to sign a buy-out player and they'll bring back House by the end of the year. Rockets just need health. Harden is going to carry them this season.
I agree that CP3 could have done a Tom Brady ($14M/year for the GOAT is just ridiculous) for us and leave a bit more room for the team to improve. Giving his age and injury prone history, a 4yr/$120M deal would be more in line. As it is, he would not accept any discount. We can speculate all day, but only CP3 can answer the reason why he was deserving of a veteran max contract given the above limitations.
Where do all the idiots come from? The team is 10 games over .500 despite significant injuries to its #2, 3 and 4th best players. We are one hot streak out of the #3 seed in the West. We just annihilated two other West contenders on the road by 20+ points and we still don’t have our starting Center back. We have beaten the Warriors twice and we just got better at the trade deadline and are likely to improve further in the buyout market. And you somehow think being bottom 10 in FG and 3FG% is a negative? It’s a positive! It means the team has underperformed against career averages and is still a top five team in the west despite injuries AND underperformance! When everyone is healthy and as our shooters progress towards the mean, the team will start looking more and more like last years squad, but with more depth!
