    i wouldn't mind
At the very least he is a great personality to have on the bench.
many games I would see him encourage and give words of wisdom to our young rookies especially landry.
Hes the ultimate cheerleader on the bench :D

What the article failed to mention is Deke will be working alongside Van Chancellor to replace Jim Foley and Gene Peterson as The Rockets Radio Commentators.

    DO IT!

Mutumbo is probably one of the more amazing people in sports.

Did you hear mutumbo after the game, talking about how it broke his heart about Yao?

Plus! Who's going to defend the three point line from the bench like he does. I love it when he screams in players ears when they're shooting threes beside the bench.

get Kwame Brown, backup for yaoming. Yao need at least 15 mins rest per game, otherwise he will be injured again. yao's most important task should be in playoffs, like Shaq :D

by the way, get Ron Artest too,for the championship.

A younger backup for Yao plus Deke will be the ideal solution.

Well, I love the job Deke does, but I would love to see the Rockets bring in a true backup center who will play regular backup minutes instead of just an insurance policy sitting on the bench. The Rockets also needs more size in their front court to play against the big front court of the contenders.

The way we are playing, it doesnt seem that we will be lottery bound. Morey knows that he cant get a decent backup center from the draft and would rather just keep Wamutombo one more year.

I would love to have Deke back next year. Even as old as he is he still has a commanding presence on the defensive end of the floor.

I think this offer is more of a mental motivation for Deke to pick his performance right now and not hang it up waitin for retirement in the summer.

The most function of Mutombo is not on the court now. I know why Morey want him to return next year. Mutombo has enough experience to tell the young guys how to play. Someone said Mutombo piped his eye when he heard the news about Yao's situation.
PS, why Mutombo will talk to Coach (former Georgetown coach John) Thompson?

As long as it's not conflicting with the room for better players on our roster, I'm all for it. Mutombo is constantly teaching and taking young guys aside to help them out. Plus, he's always so energetic on the bench, it really gets the others guys pumped.

I can understand someone thinking that, but Deke doesn't need any motivation. If there is a prouder man in the NBA, and one with a greater sense of personal honor, I'd like to see him. Considering how Yao is holding up, if he can give us what he gave us the last game on a regular basis the rest of this year and next year, why not?

Very rarely can you condone giving a guy a roster spot for everything he DOESN'T do on the court, but this is one of them. Everything I've heard about the guy makes him a great human being, and a great teammate. I'm all for it--I just hope it doesn't handicap us too seriously with salaries.
