But you have to remember Morrie broke the mold by not tanking and rebuilding at the same time..... Speaking of the word time,he does have some left. Be positive. Worst case scenario we strike out this year, keep cap flexibility for next years free agents. Don't make any rash moves like a deng..
If it helps your stomach out, think about things the way Parsons has SURELY thought about it up until now: for the first three years of his contract, he essentially made ~2M if I'm not mistaken. Well now you add another three years and 46M to that, and you get 6 years, 48M. That's an average of 8M per year. Not crazy. He's not worth the max by any means, but neither was he worth what he made when he first came into the NBA. Now's the time for him to get paid back for those first three years. Look at it that way and then things don't seem nearly as bad. And again, this is all Les paying through his nose. Not us. We want championships. We deserve championships for decades of surviving the bad times. Now we have such an opportunity. Can't let a thing like a soft cap get in our way. This only happens about once a decade. Pay the man and let's get to work, dammit.
Oooohh...they got us. I'm fairly certain Morey didn't make Parsons a rfa w/o knowing he might be lost if someone grossly overpaid him. Now the Mavs have a good role player for $15m per year...making more than their "star" player. Genius move Cuban. Genius.
It may not be coming out of our pocket, but his contract does affect being able to build a championship team because it puts you in a situation where you potentially are unable to build a bench. A team with 4 max contract players on it is not a good thing at the end of the day and especially so when one of them is named Chandler Parsons. Miami had issues with depth after 60 million going to the big 3. This would be over 70 million for just 4 players.
What happened to Dorsey? I remember watching that video of Dorsey being taught a turnaround baby hook by CD. Dorsey clanked every one of his shots. Had the touch of Chris Dudley, and made Darryl Dawkins look graceful.
Morey is a Bayesian. He plays the percentages knowing that he'll have successes and failures bit that on balance the former will over time surpass the latter. Even if Parsons goes to Dallas, the silver lining is that Morey did him a solid by making him an RFA. Parsons and Fegan and others will remember that.
Lol... its funny how people that don't know the business side of the NBA, make stupid threads like his one. How can u say that letting Parsons become a RFA is bad, when the Rockets control where he plays next season? And why should the Rockets have given Dragic the 4th year player option at that time, when we they didnt have starts to build around. If the trade for Harden was done earlier Dragic would have still been a Rocket. And you can not blame Morey for not drafting Kawhi. he was only know as a defender in college. Kawhi and pop should be given for improving his game instead. And you can not say he got lucky in getting D12 and Harden. He put the team in a position were they were ready with young players, and cap space to make blockbuster deals. And on Lin, even if I think he is TERRIBLE, the Rockets would have paid 10 mil for 2 years, and another team will pay the 15 mil left.
Let parsons walk screw paying that cost . bad thing is he can't sign a good sf with bosh signed rockets screwed
They wouldn't know his value going into next off-season. And if we were contending, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to trade a starter.
Morey needs pull the Where's Waldo maneuver on Cuban starting at midnight http://www.postingandtoasting.com/2...iding-jeremy-lins-offer-sheet-like-the-plague
He got a great offer. Why not agree to it? It could be rescinded. How is this a betrayal? I think you probably feel more betrayed than Morey. You think Morey cares a damn about any players' feelings?
I would add that teams will be paying Lin and Asik $15M a year. One of those teams may be us. Is Parsons better than Lin? Hell yes. The market changes, I believed CP25 would get at least a $12-14M offer, so he got $15M. Morey is a stat man, he had to look at a range of what CP25 could get and then assume worse case could happen. Well worse case was he got this type offer, but Morey still has control. If we can sign Bosh by Friday, then we'll sign CP25 and everyone will say we survived. If we don't get Bosh, I would still match CP25. Why? CP25 is a glue guy, his intangibles and skills fit in well with H&H. If he picks up his defense next year then his offensive skills (3pt, drives and passing) will make him the perfect SF next to a Bosh. If we don't get Bosh, you still have CP25 to dangle as trade bait (Love, Rondo, etc.) if its not working out. Chandler signing with Dallas may piss us off, but if you're in his shoes you would probably do the same thing. Now it's on Morey to get Bosh to make a decision.
Morey's job is definitely not easy. He is earning his money this free agency season..one way or another.
