Morey wants to make the playoffs. It would be a great accomplishment, it would make the team more money, and it would create more interest from prospective free agents.
I would agree with those that say the Mavs assets are worth more if there contract is expiring than for actual value due to their age and very declining skills. Howard IMO is way way overrated and is always hurt. He has been a head case in Dallas for years now. Terry has been sucking mostly this year. A couple of great games against us but he has mostly sucked. As far as trading Dampier, if the Mavs could get Philly to bite on a Damp for Dalambert along with other expiring assets for AI then the Mavs would be all over that.
old though they may be, their tradeable assets are physically capable of playing and contributing to a good team. the rockets main tradeable asset (tmac) is a complete unknown. so where the rockets can put together a package around tmac that will get $20M+ off a team's cap, the bulk of that is tied to a player that may or may not actually do anything. the mavs can put together a package around howard and dampier (although i haven't looked at the contracts recently, so i could be off here) that can do the same while actually contributing at a decent level. bottom line is it would easier for the receiving team to sell the mavs trade to their fans than the tmac trade. whoever gets tmac from the rockets will be announcing to their fans that they've given up on this season. that's tough to do when there are other options out there.
I say to you, Communist China... keep on voting for TMAC as an ASG starter. Yes, pump up the ballot box, keep it stuffed full to the rafters. All of us should hope for a momentarily-motivated McGrady to demonstrate to a national audience of GMs his deal-worthiness. This should be the test-drive opportunity of a lifetime. Or not...
What are you talking about? When did he say that? On the other hand, it seems Morey's meeting up with Anna Megan Raley in Raleigh. http://twitter.com/dmorey
