From the ESPN write-up Gado was one of the few bright spots in the Packers' 4-12 season last year, advancing from the practice squad to become the team's starting running back near the end of the season. But Gado has struggled to adjust to the zone-blocking scheme being run by new Packers coach Mike McCarthy. I hope he can pick up our zone-blocking scheme better than he did the Packers'. I think it's a solid move, he's a good runner and Sherman must've been comfortable with him. Seeing Lundy and Morency try and pass protect against the Iggles was sickening.
I just added him to my fantasy team. You would think he would get more carries in Houston. You never know, could be a diamond in the ruff. EDIT: But he has to clear waivers by 9/16 and I'm 7th on the waiver order. I'm going to keep this to myself. Hopefully no one else will pick up on it.
I don't understand how this is a strange trade. 05-06 Gado: 143 attempts for 582 yards and 6 TDs (4.1 ypc) 05-06 Morency: 46 attempts for 184 yards and 2 TDs (4 ypc) You're basically trading a 2nd year player for another 2nd year player who has had more carries and more yards. The talent is probably about the same but Gado probably fits the system better, plus Sherman knows the kid. It's probably a lateral move at worst but I don't think it makes us any worse.
It sucks but no one couldve figured that DDs career would be done (which it probably is). Plus its only one game. Things could definitely pick up as we get more experience. We're running a totally new system with a lot of new players. I think we should all give it more time before we join the I wish we had Bush bandwagon.
I had Gado last year for a few starts in fantasy...he had 3 TDs one game which made me totally dominate that week. At worst, we got an equal runningback. However, I think we slightly upgraded. As much as like Morency and was hoping for him to have a solid year here, I think this is a good move for us.
I don't know why anyone would be crying about this trade. Gado looked good last year and it's not like we gave up anything to get him. Morency and Lundy suck IMHO. Morency is all speed and nothing else. Lundy was agood preseason player but he isn't a starting NFL running back. We're trying here to fixa problem. I think most people know we screwed up but it's over and done with. We can't travel back in time so we can only work with what we have. I can't root against us but i sure wouldn't mind Peterson in the first and hopefully Troy Smith in the second.
I think Gado is more of a natural one cut and hit the hole guy. Thus a better system fit. And DD....you have my permission to add a disclaimer to your sig....I didn't realize Longhorn nation was gonna give you flack daily
gado looked good last year, and then he tore his mcl, and then he hasn't looked good. this is a reach.
I know but we didn't giveup anything in my opinion. Gado proved he could be effective on an NFL level and Morency hadn't. In fact, he looked terrible. I completely agree with you that it's a reach/desperation move but it doesn't hurt the team. It makes me understand the Dayne move a whole lot less and tells me a whole lot more about what our staff thought of Morency. I's weird we have 3 power backs. I'd like to know more about DD's situation to be honest with you. It just shows how poor at drafting our staff was.
I know nothing about Gado (though torn MCL kinda concerns me), but what exactly does this team have against fast RBs? Seems one major weakness we had last year was the lack of speed (other major problems: lack of size, lack of strength, lack of talent, etc).
