Wait! I'm confused! Jorge says being black is the only reason white voters like me are supporting Barack.

    :(

You are really trying to make this thing some epic event, but it really isn't. Trinity is not going to get much bigger than it is now.

Can you imagine the poor republican schmoe sitting through 20 years of video trying to find a gotcha?

I can't speak for Jorge, but some pundits believe that a percentage of white voters are supporting Obama because of "liberal guilt" as they put it. In other words, electing Obama as President makes up for all the wrongs done to blacks in our past. Affirmative action for the highest office in the land in other words. And on the same token, some of these voters feel that not supporting Obama makes them racist.

I actually think there's something to that. It may be a very small segment of the population, but I could see some people supporting him for those reasons.

Thanks for the civil response. Much more eloquent than others.

I have been following the campaign from the beginning. I've canvased in PA, I've phone banked for the campaign, I've attended several rallies and private fundraisers, and I have never heard anyone using the excuse of white guilt for voting for Barack. Seems almost foreign to me.

To be fair, no one is going to admit it. No one is going to outright say "I'm voting for Obama because I feel bad about slavery."

Here's Pleger's endorsement, now purged from Obama's website, but rescued from the Yahoo! cache:

Im concerned by issues of poverty and issues of justice and equal access and opportunity especially when dealing with children and education and healthcare. Also, the war in Iraq is non-negotiable: end it! The faith community has to be a prophetic voice to bring us to where we ought to be as a country. Its voice should call every individual to be their best and not assimilate into anything less. Obama is calling back those who have given up and lost hope in the political system both young and old in the belief that we can fix it. He has the intellect for the job and I havent heard anyone since Robert F. Kennedy who is causing such an emotional and spiritual awakening to the political possibilities.[/rquoter]
