I found this to be a very interesting graph. My major complaint is that it doesn't break down the estimated illegal Hispanic immigrant population in each state. And that's irritating, because the number of Hispanics registered to vote is shockingly low, as a % of their populations. In Texas, I think we may see a couple of "safe" GOP Congressional seats lost to Democrats because of the immigration issue. Texas has a higher percentage of registered Latinos than most of the others, getting beat out by New Mexico. Unsurprisingly, I think this is just that much added fuel to what is going to be a GOP disaster of '94 proportions in the Fall. Certainly, it will make inroads in the Hispanic vote the GOP has had success with in states like Florida, and may make the difference there in '08.

If all of Mexico (I know all is an exaggeration, but still) is trying to get to America to just have a better life, why don't they just all stay in Mexico and make a better life for themself there? Make Mexico better.

Alternatively, just let America take over Mexico and try and accomplish the same thing?

I'm not sure the family that's barely making a few dollars a day there really is focused on trying to institute the nationwide reforms needed to root out corruption and refocus economic policies. I also don't think they want to wait 10, 15, or 20 years for all that to happen while their kids starve and don't get education, when they have a chance for something much better, much more quickly if they can make it across the border. I'm not sure why anyone would expect differently of them.

The CIA factbook states Mexico has 40% of it's population living in poverty. That's horrible. Yet their GDP per capita is among the higher ones south of the border. Anyone know why everything below the US, the Carribean and South America, is doing so poorly? Canada and US is advanced economically, but everything else in the western hemisphere is 3rd world.

Easy. Canada has its population centered in large cities, away from all those lakes and cold weather, while Mexico's population is spread in small towns with high unemployment rates, and corrupt governments.

I have been wondering about the same thing.

Mexico is a democracy. It isn't run by commie or under other dictatorship/authoritarian rule. It has a capitalist/market economy. It has not been occupied by foreign imperialists for almost a century. It has religious freedom, political freedom, freedom of speech, and any other forms of freedom you see in US or Canada. The country is ideally located and its vast coastlines provide enormous benefits for tourism industry. It is not devoid of natural resourses. Mexicans are hard working people. Racial tension doesn't seem to be as bad as in US. It doesn't go around world making troubles and causing strains on the government budget.

I know there's wide gap between its rich and poor. I know there are widespread corruption and drug problem in Mexico. But are they causes or effects? So what's with Mexico?

Then why have so much pride for the home country? Why wave the flag, etc., etc.? You're country sucks...apparently. If you want to be so proud of it, go fix it first and foremost...

...Then complain about some other countries immigration laws

All I have to say is I am glad that several people who oppose this invasion of our country have come and spoken up. When this thread started it seemed like I was the only one on here that didn't want to reward people for breaking our laws.

If I call illegal immigrants scumbags and pieces of donkey excrement and that offends the more left wing posters on here, that's just too bad. It is because I feel extremely strongly about this and the general apathy among alot of Americans to stop them disgusts me.

Anyone else see the humor in an "insane mane" calling someone else mentally sick?

Lots of people here in the US have pride in their original country. You dont think the many Italian immigrants in previous eras didn't have huge Italian pride? And Irish ones? Every group has pride about their heritage. That has nothing to do with the opportunities their country offers them.

Latino voters (mostly families) were split between during the last presidential elections because they supported Bush's espoused values: morality, religion, strong security policy, and strong economy (espoused).

I think we'll see the same split unless Tancredo and his ilk becomes more prominent in Republican leadership...or if the Democrats find a consistently strong platform with experienced leadership to manage it through to the people.

I am glad that others who are against for stricter regulation about illegal immigration have come and argued their cases as well. Because it has provided actual discussion on the topic rather than pure name calling, generalizations and a high degree of ignorant mouthing off.

You are passionate about an issue which is fine, but calling people who you don't know names is ignorant. Especially when you are presented with specific cases, or other instances of law breakers, who you obviously don't feel are POS or scumbags.

Having passion for an issue is fine, allowing that passion to translate into blind ham-handed rage and vitriol, isn't.
