I agree the attacks themselves are definitely equal. The difference is where the attacks are coming from. There weren't elected officials or serious Democratic candidates weren't the ones saying Bush was Hitler. However that isn't the case with GOP where you have elected officials questioning whether Obama is an American, and you have candidates doing all of the crazy things mentioned in this thread.

So yes the attacks are the same, but who's making the attacks are different.

I would agree they were equally ignorant if it wasn't for the fact that Bush lied the country into a war that killed hundreds of thousands of people while Obama seemed to piss off the majority of these haters before he had actually done anything (largely because he had the nerve to be black).

It's comments like this that make it more difficult for Democrats to reach out to White working class voters.

    Thanks, I guess.

Glad to see more and more people realizing this. The GOP has found a great away to assuage the insecurity of their ignorant constituents: by asserting that they are the real people "populist, salt of the earth" and the educated are the "elitists". Somehow they twist it to convince the aforementioned ignorant that the real elitists (the rich) should be protected while the real salt of the earth, the poor and middle class, are all entitlement loving welfare leechers. Of course poor and middle class do vote GOP thinking that they are not these leechers, that's their no good layabout, goldbricking liberal neighbors. They would never stoop so low mainly because they're too busy zipping around on their Medicare paid for scooters spending their SS checks.

You've got to be very stupid to fall for this crap, but when you take advice from uneducated hacks like Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, Angle, and O'Donnell I guess that proves it.

Yes, because these people were really willing to give Obama a fair chance. Their reaction to him and his policies was not the least bit racist.

Keep in mind that my post was directly commenting on people like those in the picture above who were doing things like comparing Obama to a monkey. You think it's his policies they have the biggest problem with?

So.. I'm not a big time tea-party supporter, I sympathize with the idea of less government, but I'm more into promoting local government to the detriment of the federal government, and I hate libertarians, so I consequently hate a lot of the tea party stuff that is out there.

That said, do you guys really think that the tea party is fundamentally compromised of racists? I think arguing that, and pursuing that as a Democratic platform, is really dumb, because although there are several idiots in the tea party movement who are racist, the lot of them aren't.

Any tea party thread has me thinking that the left leaners on the board are starting to delude themselves on this issue.

Amen. Their delusions are good comic relief, but the they are not helping themselves politically. So, by all means, carry on with the slander.

I saw signs at anti-war demonstrations that were anti-Semitic (not just anti Israel). That doesn't mean everyone at the demonstration hated Jews.

Agreed. Mega caveat, however, is that I have seen little from the tea party in terms of distancing themselves from the racist elements in their midst. In particular, several prominent tea party candidates and leaders have made racist statements with almost no repercussions. So yes, while the blanket statement that they're predominantly racist is more incendiary than need be, the reality is, frankly, just as disconcerting.

You seem to be having a big problem understanding my posts. I was not claiming at any point in this thread that all Tea Party people are racist. I was stating that there really is no point in Democrats reaching out to the ones who are clearly racist and who hate Obama and everything he stands for just because he's black.

Just to emphasize that, I'll quote this bit from my last post, as you seemed to (dis)miss it:

I think it brings down what little is left of reasonable political discourse in this country when you compare the President of the United States to Hitler or call him a monkey. Whether or not you agree with his policies is irrelevant IMO.

Except that the Tea Party may be a double edged sword for the GOP. Considering it is a midterm election for a first term president with the economy still doing bad the Democrats are bound to lose seats. Several Tea Party candidates have turned what was a sure thing for the GOP, taking the house and the senate into question. For instance most polls showed that Castle should beat Coons easily in Delaware but O'Donnell is trailing. Reid is blown out vs. unnamed Republican in Nevada but is tied with Angle.

This is what is the most amusing thing about the GOP.

They turn ignorance into a virtue. That being stupid is justified. And they excuse their racist views by accusing the other side of throwing the word around lightly.

Frankly, I think you just write these people off. They are the stupid Americans the world hates and the worst of our country. There's no excuse for racism and stupidity, not with a free education system and access to all the information in the world. It's a choice. And if they choice to be stupid, then let them be stupid.

I really think that people should encourage their stupidity because it just makes the real average American realize how dumb they are and push them to the other side.

It's funny how to some, a display of some modicum of intelligence is construed as (liberal) elitism and as something bad.

Do you understand why calling a Black person a monkey might be racist, even if white people are also called monkeys?

If not that's fine. But there is a historical context which changes things.

I agree with you. However, if you really, truly believed that President of the US lied to the American public to gain support for a war that killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people all so he could settle some personal score or help his buddies make a lot of money, who would you compare him to? Hitler may be extreme, but the guy still caused hundreds of thousands of deaths for a BS reason.
