Only problem with that theory is that when the fronts come thru and bring us that cold weather, the humidity drops to < 25% around here. The humidity is only a problem when the wind is out of the south/southeast
True...maybe it just seems like a damp cold. Again, North Dakota was a helluva lot colder (temperature wise) than Houston...but Houston is more uncomfortable. Then again I was there on outdoor business and wearing thermals a ski jacket for extreme temps, a ski cap and turtle around my neck and gloves. In Houston, I wear a lighter jacket and don't wear the rest. And I didn't move to North Dakota..I was there on buisness. I wouldn't wish my enemy on living in such a desolate place to live.
That happens everywhere - cold air holds less water vapor than hot air - when air gets too cold to hold the water vapor - that's when it rains. Accordingly if it gets down to 0 or lower - in Houston, Montana, wherever - the ABSOLUTE humidity is going to be the same: very, very low. However the relative humidity (the amount of water vapor air at a certain temp can carry) is the same. Likes somebody said, with high relative humidity, which you might be more likely to find in HOuston - cold temparatures will feel COLDER because high humidity increases heat conduction/loss from the body. So it's the worst of both worlds. PS, I see nothing unusual in this weeks upcoming forecast, so the initial report in this thread seems like BS.
I was wondering about this as well. I got the same email as the thread starter, but when I checked the local forcast out through the weekend, there was nothing about any cold front either arriving or on the way...something seems fishy.
listening to the forecast this morning, they hinted at the idea of stronger cold temps moving in sometime early next week. they say that the models aren't good for predicting cold weather here, so i imagine we would learn more as it got closer to the event.
sounds like the really cold air is going to miss us. i heard a report that it's all heading east of us.
I just checked out weather.com and the is a Special Alert up for my area (Arkansas). They're saying a blast of cold air is coming in from the north and a low pressure system is moving in from the Gulf. Right now they are calling for light to moderate accumulations of snow and ice. I hope it hits because I need a day off from school/work.
the air is being pushed east, as i understand it. i'm hoping to see the sun again, soon. little league baseball starts soon, and it's been so wet and cloudy, we haven't had many opportunities to get out and play.
no..but it is supposed to be cold and cloudy this weekend, i understand. highs in the 50's, lows in the 30's.
