if Morey couldn't even say in a press conference who he feels are budding star players, I doubt he would turn around and say something about Thabust like that. This guy is just making up news because he can. Hooray for the internets!

ppl, please stop denying the facts and reality. thabeet is a bust. no matter what your wishful thinking is, it won't change the facts that he is a bust. if a reporter wrote so clearly what other ppl said stead using "rumor or third party". it must be the case. there is no such moral destruction on thabeet since he IS a bust. DM is a math glue. he understands what 0.001% chance that thabeet could be a force means. to me we got a pick with battier's trade and nothing else. forget about thabeet as fast as you can.

Morey wanted a near mid level expiring contract next year, to replace this years.

Be that as it may (or may not be), Morey wouldn't outright say that. Especially if Rick Adelman openly has given Shane Battier praises. It would make Morey look weak and incompetent.

actually if he does nothing ever, the trade is a success.

We give up Battier for 22 whole games of basketball - can re-sign him in the off-season if we want?
In exchange we get to have a good look at an athletic 7'3 player with a jumpshot (not many of those around). And get some draft considerations too.

If he does nothing, big deal - what was the harm in 'loaning out' Battier for 22 games? (if we want him back) - or getting draft considerations??

I don't think Thabeet will amount to anything, but if you think that Morey exclusively told Bill freaking Ingram that "Yeah, that young guy on our team is absolutely going to suck", then I have some Nigerian buddies who need your bank account number to get their money.

I wasn't really high on him in college.. but went to a few depaul vs uconn games and he didn't play much then..

but not sure how he can be labeled a bust this early. Oden got a few years in at least. Thabeet didn't have much playing time in the hell that's the Memphis Grizzlies and he's a center. Doesn't it take a few more years for C's to adjust to the NBA?

not everyone is born to play bball. you just need to watch their play to understand it. being tall doesn't mean you can play bball. in this world, there are more tall guys who don't play bball than who play bball. thabeet is one who shouldn't play bball. yao shouldn't play bball either but he got started very early. it took him more than dozen of years to become a ROBOT to play bball. i hope you understand why I use ROBOT. Dream is a typical example on the other side. it didn't take him a lot of years to be a star. he is born to play bball coz he has all athletic balance and coordination to make him a great player. unfortunately, we do have a dozen of years to spend on thabeet to become a good ROBOT player.

You're making it sound like Yao was a bad player.

The trade was Battier for a draft pick. Thabeet was just thrown in there and my guess is that he's gone at the end of the season, cut without ever playing a game. I'm also going to guess that if anyone sees him playing pro b-ball again it'll be in Europe or (more likely) China.

I don't have any animus towards the guy, but you've gotta be realistic.

I agree with the gist of your post, but he's already appeared in a game for the Rockets.

When you become a bball ROBOT, you can beat majority of players. sounds good to me.

Although I don't believe Morey actually made that comment about Thabeet, but what was said is not far from facts.
This Thabeet guy doesn't belong to the NBA.
