Nope, billionaire trial lawyers, oilmen, car dealers etc... certainly do give a crap, just possibly about the wrong things.
Where is the 'both' option? I voted Cowboys because I've liked them since I've liked football... I like VY because of what he was able to accomplish at UT, but as a pro he hasn't done much, and I've lost interest.
yes, and students and alumni too, cause those people sitting in the stadium aren't CGI. I believe when Tech played us, it was 101,297 people were there in attendance. And yes, people at the other school cared too. (a whole bunch of tech people). The owner of the Texans is a billionaire oilman.
What are we talking about here, a class A, B, C, D, or K fire? Let's start a poll, but leave out the "tinman does not die from a fire" option.
My bad. I thought the poll was asking for the opinions of all current/former Houstonians, which I am.
I think tinman is trying to find out if there are more Cowboys or VY fans in the city. So saying neither isn't really accomplishing that. Trying to figure out the purpose of a tinman poll is one of life's great blessings.
you went to San Jac dude, it's not like you went to UNC or Duke. There's a just a weee bit more school spirit about sports especially hoops at those places. So the the political correctness amongst the Clutchfans is to hate the University of Texas, but it's cool to root for U of H right? If you take away the city rivalry between Houston and Dallas, and just looked at Football team A vs Football team B and it's history, what would people who are casual fans tend to sway interest to?
Georgia tech is the only team I support, nothing against the longhorns but the only player I've followed since he's left the program onto the nfl is Quentin Jammer. I assume if you paid attention to my posts you'll know why. Nothing against VY or the Cowboys, I usually don't hate if there's not a radical reason. Vy did some great things with the longhorns and the cowboys were incredibly fun to watch with their big 3.
Funny thing is I used to hate the Cowboys and we're talking about hot white hate, when they were going through that America's crack wagon phase, I cherished in their embarassments. It all changed when they drafted Dat Nguyen out of A&M which happened to be my favorite college player at that time. Now I follow the Boys believe it or not. As for VY, I knew of him when he was just a 15 year old freshman at Madison, I saw him at one the varsity basketball games, Madison V. (somebody, can't remember who, )this goes way back in 95-96. VY was a fantastic athlete even back then, another instance, when I was training my friend's son on the tracks at Madison and saw VY there just goofing off with his boys, he flicked his wrist and the football went almost end zone to end zone, that was a 90 yard throw and VY made it to look like a hand off, I knew that kid was special!
well TracyMacAddidas, let me get you up to speed here. back in the day in Houston, there was a team called the Houston Oilers, it was a good team that never seemed to break through to win a championship (NFL) and some dramatic loses. The owner, Bud Adams, got into a nasty spat with the city and the major cause he wanted a new stadium. The city said no and that the astrodome was good enough. The owner moved the team to Nashville. In the period of no NFL team, the people of Houston only got the Cowboys and whatever they decided to put on tv. A rich billionaire hired Steve Patterson (the architect of the Houston Rockets first championship) and setup shop in the same building I was working at back in the day. They started a company called something like "NFL Houston". They lobbied for a football team and won it with the promise to build an huge stadium (today's Reliant). I knew about this before all these so called "Hardcore Texan fans" cause I walked by their office everyday. In the meantime, the Oilers/Titans moved, and they did something Houstonians were thirsting to see.. go to the Super Bowl. The owner of the Oilers decided to take the name and history of his franchise with him (Unlike when the Browns left and turned into the Ravens). In the meantime while the Houstonians had to wait for the stadium team to be built, there was a kid in Houston lighting up the Houston Football Scene. His name was VINCE YOUNG. his play was so exciting that even Steve Francise (a Houston Rocket favorite) would regularly show up to see him play. Even the Titans/Oilers Steve McNair would be there (also his mentor). I'll back up a little so you understand how colleges are here in Texas. The biggest colleges are Texas and Texas A&M. Texas Tech, TCU, etc weren't as big. And U of Houston was considered the lowest for college football (this is the truth Cougar fans). Vince Young decided to go to the University of Texas. In the meantime, The Texans drafted David Carr and beat the Cowboys in game 1. All was good in Houston.. But it was an illusion. The Texans ended up being horrible. Vince Young took college football by storm and eventually won a national championship over USC, which was hyped as the best team of all time. Excitement was building in the NFL Draft because VY lobbied to be drafted by his hometown Texans and that Houston has the LARGEST UT ALUMNI in the country. However, the Texans drafted Mario Wiliams and ticked off a bunch of people here, either UT Alumni or VY's Houston fans cause he was a home town hero. VY in his rookie year was great and beat the Texans dramatically and pretty much ended the David Carr era in Houston. Fast Forward today, VY had not recovered from difficulties in his 2nd year and the Texans have rebuilt with a better QB and team. The hatred of VY is not because he plays for the original Oilers. It wasn't like people really hated Steve McNair and Eddie George, in fact, there were many of their jerseys in town worn by kids. It's because of the fact that UT won a national championship and it's rivals wanted to see it's biggest star fall. Look at all the VY critics here, 95% did not go to UT, they went U of H (which has been a joke in football for years), A & M (the other big university which lost it's power since the Big 12 formed) and Texas Tech. In the meanwhile, besides the VY drama, the lull in no NFL football team in Houston caused many to become Cowboy fans. The Cowboys were always on National TV and they were winners and had a history and stability. The Cowboys, which had a ton of fans already, added a bunch of new ones because of the lack of team for a while, plus some people don't feel attached to the expansion team because it lacked history. So for the Cowboy 'hate' here, its pretty obvious beside the city vs city thing. They are always on, they are the Lakers, they are prime time TV. As for Vince Young, some 'houstonians' criticize some other/former Houstonians to this day for wanting a home town hero who said he wanted to play at home. And that's the way it is.
