The Rockets possibly need this on their team, too bad their coaches are short sighted and probably play into favoritism at the moment. Either way, not a big deal in My possible opinion, suspend a few games, and then move on from the heat of the moment incident, and learn how to take advantage of this type of passion to better your team.
You cannot be serious?? As someone who plays and referees (at a low level!), the players KNOW that touching a referee is completely unacceptable. The referee is supposed to get in between the players when there is an altercation, because they are untouchable - any idiot who floors a referee is in trouble. Honestly, 5 game suspension is probably lucky for Montrezl here. He could easily have got 10 for that - it was a pretty big shove. And 'I didn't know it was him' isn't really a good enough excuse - you are not allowed to touch the referee, fullstop. Notice how the security guards take the refs to the centre circle? Not knowing NBDL procedure, that would still appear to me to be security protocol, could mean the refs are scared - definitely means somebody thought someone (Harrell) was out of control. Generally the referee team is supposed to go to the scorers bench after the game.
Hes lucky it was only 5 games. Knuckleheads like Harrell you hope that punishments will teach them something when their wallet hurts.
I think he got off pretty easy. I hope Harrell learns from this. I remember when Rudy got hit. Washington just turned and hit the person closest to him. Bad things can happen when you start swinging or pushing without thinking.
Only 5 games? Geez he's lucky. Got off lightly. Still think the other player who instigated this and shoved Harrell pretty good should've been penalized also.
I don't think it was intentional, kinda in the heat of the moment move, but still its a deserved 5 game suspension. We've been cursed this season
Idk if I'd call that "deliberate assault and battery" on the official. Deliberate implies that he intended to push the referee from the get go. I'd say second degree assault and battery at best lol.
So wait, who is allowed to have an opinion and who isn't? You're allowed to have an opinion that refs should be shoved more but someone else can't have an opinion that a player should shove less?
this guy definitely has a temper. i remember in college when he punched a western kentucky player and i think a ref got hurt as well in that scuffle.
Now we know the identity of The Cat...Montrezl Harrell. Why is there the letter l at the end of your name if it's supposed to be silent anyway?
Funny same people railing on hassan Whiteside for being a headache, excuse Harrell. We need to get rid of this guy, hes not very good anyway.
While I agree that this is the current sentiment, it shouldn't be. Players should be treated with the same respect as refs in altercations. Granted, shoving a ref to the ground should be harsher sentence than shoving a player less violently.
I'm not following. Are you saying players should be "untouchable" like DrNeugebauer said about refs, and should get a 5-game suspension for shoving a player?
Just to basically reiterate, what I saw on the video was not a big deal. The other player instigates the fight, then as the ref tries to hold Trez back, Trez pretty much accidentally pushed the ref down. His body language was one of frustration towards the player who instigated, and not directly attacking the ref. And it's not like the ref had to go put on an ice pack. I'm pretty sure the dude just got up and went on about his day. I was hoping for maybe 2-3 games suspension. I don't think he deserves 5.
