Look who we had close games with, OTs with Chicago, another close one, with San Antonio, a close one with Dallas, two close ones with the Lakers, 3 close ones/OTs with NO (who have the best "final 5 minutes" player in the nba in Paul), we were under 5 for most of the 4th quarters against Miami too. Neither of these players are anywhere close to Paul, and the majority of our other close ones were against teams a lot better than us. We as a team played badly in the final 5 minutes of close games against teams with a lot more talent than us, shocking really i know. Of the ****ty teams we had a 3 pt game with the Clippers (that only became under 5 in the last 30 seconds) and that one in Utah, our early season loss to GS and then... It's like beating everyone usually in 4 sets or better, but losing 3 five set matches to Nadal giving you a season record of 1-3 in 5 set matches, therefore you're bad at 5 set matches....well that or Nadal is just better than you....
Not to mention that there's no such thing as clutch when you're playing for the GSW. Oh hey look we're down by 5 and 20 games under .500, this is really a pressure situation!!
check the stats on both kevin martin and monta ellis throughout the years. ellis is clearly the better player. chucker some bullsh!t. at least monta drives to the basket consistently, and tries to man up on d. Monta is also more clutch than martin. so it really pains me to see people on hear saying that martin was a much better player last season, and they wouldnt trade martin for ellis.
Martin was a far superior player last season. What was the Warriors record again? Monta had David Lee and Stephen Curry at his disposal, and the Warriors were AWFUL...
Monta Ellis/Stephen Curry/David Lee= 35 wins and 47 losses Kevin Martin/Kyle Lowry/Luis Scola= 43 wins and 39 losses 2010-2011 Kevin Martin 21.4 PER 9.5 Win shares Monta Ellis 18.4 PER 6.0 Win shares
last season monta had a better field goal percentage than martin. ellis had better assist averages than martin. ellis avg one steal per game. kevin martin averaged .30 steals a game. and i don't even have to compare scoring averages. if you put ellis scoring next to lowry's passing, we would be better that what we are now easily.
and david lee is terrible on post defense. that was the real reason why the warriors were/are so bad. oppsosing power forwards can eat lee's lunch easily in the paint, plus biedrins regressed, and was horrid last season too. our frontline now is better than golden state's.
Per 36 minutes Montal Ellis was averaging... 21.5 PPG 5.0 APG 3.1 RPG 1.9 SPG 2.8 TOV True shooting percentage=.536 PER=18.6 Kevin Martin was averaging... 25.9 PPG 2.7 APG 3.6 RPG 1.1 SPG 2.5 TOV True Shooting percentage=.601 PER=21.4 Kevin Martin was outstanding last year... Second best scorer in the entire NBA per minute, behind Kobe.
Comparing win totals and win share for Martin and Ellis is kinda meaningless, no? PER is another story. That said, so far, this year is a different story.
I think it is important. Ellis and his impact on his teammates is extremely questionable at best. Kevin Martin was a significant part of a slightly above average team. Monta Ellis, with similar players around him, led the Warriors to sucktitude, as usual... The thread that was bumped was from last year, correct?
A prolific scorer and lightning quick. Can you imagine our fast break game with Kyle and Monte flying down the court. Most certainly an upgrade from K-Mart
I disagree. First, we're talking about 2 mediocre teams. Second, that's a completely arbitrary comment about supporting cast. I do not believe GS had a better supporting cast then Martin. Third, coaching factors in, especially on these average teams. Is Monta a winner? Clearly not, not yet. But neither is Kevin Martin. Neither are Greg Monroe, or John Wall. But I'd certainly trade Martin for those players, too. Yes, this is a bump from last year. Clearly, last year Martin was the better player. On the whole, over their careers, I'd also argue Martin's been the better player... but JUST barely. Have to dig a little deeper there. As effective a scorer as Kevin's been, he's ALWAYS struggled in fourth quarters because his scoring is so free throw dependent. He's also now starting to develop a pattern whereby his level of effectiveness seems to be impacted by coaching and system more than you'd like. Is Kevin the same effective player if he's not getting the calls, and out of Adelman's system? I'm reluctant to make the judgement call on him so early into this season as others have, but doubt is certainly creeping in there. Moreover, I'd take Monta's defense over Kevin's anyday... and that's not saying much. Finally, Kevin actually get paid more, and their contracts "effectively" run the same length. Monta actually has a player option for $11 million for one more season, but I don't think he'll take it. I can certainly see him getting paid $11 million a season going forward, and he'll want to lock in a longer term contract. I think both players are overrated and underrated, simultaneously... if that's possible. I know I've been caught thinking how talented and awesome they are. But then you have to take a step back and look at their flaws. A straight up swap would be a lateral move for both teams. I think Houston would get the better end of the bargain, but only slightly.
