Kevin Martin is a more valuable player, both as a trade asset and as a team player.

It stems from the fact he's an efficient off the ball scorer (which seem to be getting rarer by the day), something you can chuck alongside any top flight pg and watch the backcourt light teams up.

KMart over Monta. KM is a better FT shooter, better 3PT shooter and importantly discipline player. Ellis is a better defender over Martin, but a NBA writer wrote, "Defensively, Monta gets mixed reviews. He regularly ranks among the league leaders in steals, but his positional D can be sloppy." Ellis' career FT is around 75% and 3 PT FG is 33%. Importantly, there is a reason Monta is a trade bait, most likely a coach-killer and not honorable, like his broken ankle (wrecking a moped after signing a big contract). I wouldn't subtract Kevin Martin for Monta Ellis. I'd do Kevin Martin with Monta Ellis on the same team.

Give me Ellis.. He's the closest thing to a superstar that is available right now. I don't understand how y'all say we need this and that, but then complain about player 'playing within the team' or what not. We need more than one player than can create off the dribble.

All of you pro Monta Ellis guys, why has Golden St. consistently had a better plus minus with him on the bench

Adjusted plus minus (last 3 seasons)

    Monta Ellis
    08-09 -2.22 Stephen Jackson + 1.59
    09-10 -6.53 Stephen Curry + 4.33
    10-11 -6.81 Stephen Curry + 6.84

I showed the numbers for the warriors actual best players so you can't say it was simply because his teammates were bad.

The warriors play better with him on the bench, he doesn't help you win. Terrible defense, and offense at the expense of his teammates.

Kevin Martin is equally over-rated, he's better than Ellis, but not by much. I really don't want either of their over paid butts, much less both.

Real talk, last 3 minutes of a close game and we need everyone "playing within the team" You and I know that's not how things fly in the nba. Whistles get swallowed and the defense clamps down. The problem with Houston is EVERYONE plays "within the team" maybe not Scola on his good days lol.

This Ellis cat can dribble, shoot midrange, 3's, finish around the hoop and most of all, he has a killer instinct. I've seen him toe to toe with Kobe even though he got his azz handed to him. still didn't back down. That's the kind of player Houston needs.

Who else is available to be our "closer" a fourth quarter guy? Hes the closest thing available in the market. If Houston somehow gets this guy, maybe people will stop saying this team is a good team but lacks a closer.

Give me Monta Ellis over Kmart any day of the week. Monta is a straight up scoring machine and can actually pass the ball. Kmart is a spot up shooter and nothing more.

He's like KMart but worse at everything, including his godawful defense. Can't even hope to draw fouls with all that jump shooting. That's why he's on the block, lol.

I'd take him on the team, but wouldn't give up anything for him.

You sir just ignored everything and decided that your vision of him in your mind is what is real.

He's basically Francis, let's leave the fantasy world please. He's just another "needs the ball to be effective but isn't good enough to be given the ball despite the fact that he thinks he's a better basketball player than LeBron James." There's also a reason why his team is always better with him off the floor, despite GSW having garbage depth.

At least when we overrate our own players it's due to homerism, there's no excuse for denying the well-known realities in regards to other players around the league. It just makes y'all look desperate tbh.

Theres a reason why we haven't heard Houston pop up in any Monta Ellis trade rumors.

It’s hard to argue with people who obviously never watch any other games except the Rockets’.

So we want the most inefficient back court volume scorer in the nba to replace the most efficient back court volume scorer.

Despite the fact he needs the ball to be effective, where players who need the ball to be effective need to be superstars to not be a detriment to their team....

man a back court with Lowry and Ellis would have been epic. I think they would have fed off of each other's games better compared to curry. it was rumored in the past that Ellis was such a chucker because him and curry did not get along. im pretty sure the plus minus avg would be better if ellis would have played with points like lowry or rubio.

My HS coach was from Jackson, Miss, and he used to rave about the legend of the "Mississippi Bullet" and how Monta's essentially a god in those parts of the deep South. He would continually mention how impeccable a feat it was for a 160 lb. guard to average nearly 40 PPG in HS, and he'd literally report from week to week on Monta's thrashings of rival schools in Mississippi.

We didn't really know who in the hell this kid was, but my coon-ass coach would whip out his stat sheet and say, "Well, Monta dropped 62 and 14 last night, boys (coaches/players laughing at his utter dominance). Let that serve as a source of inspiration as we prepare for Skyline this week. Keep in mind, it's not about the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog!"
