please no. these guys are just stat players. they put up nice numbers but their teams are always in some kind of trouble. no way morey wants these guys to mix with our team. and its not like theyre a ron artest type of deal either. theyre gonna tie the team down with their salaries. keep the team as it is. no trading away anyone except for those who didnt play much last season ie brian cook, brent barry, the new rookies + centers. best scenario, get by with our role players, hope for tmac n yao to make a full recovery close to playoffs, have tmac n yao be fresh in the playoffs for the first time instead of worn down and just waiting to be injured. worst scenario, morey gets to work his magic next offseason like he promised he would.
Dead wrong. Stephen Jackson has contributed to a winner numerous times, and Monta and Brandon Wright would be pretty much lottery picks for us because of their youth...
Wow I would love to have Monta Ellis. That being said, I don't see the need to belittle the Rockets management for the lack of big time signings. Both our stars are injured and take up majority of the salary. How is anyone supposed to sign big names with that kind of product to sell? I know that this potentially weak-sauce year has already started with a disastrous off-season, but we shouldn't let it take away from the fact that we have a stellar GM running the show.
The Rockets are retooling/rebuilding, the Mavs and Spurs are loading up for one last run. This should be obvious, as it's Yao out for the season, not Dirk or Duncan. Consequently, there's no logic in clogging up the salary cap with players who aren't capable of carrying a team to a championship. Why isn't this obvious to everyone?
Because it is not totally true. The Rockets have so many expirings that it is going to hurt them in the offseason if they do not get rid of them for some longterm value. I think we get chipped 2 million off the cap for every expiring player after the first 3 or something like that. We would be better off trading those players for something of value rather than taking the cap hit and also having to worry about re-signing players that other teams might go after, with more money. It could benefit our team next year and our free agency to do so... Basically, with so many expirings, the cap is clogged already...
Ellis would be the calibre of player the Rockets could hope to add if they have cap space next year. If they want to add another player of Jack's ability they'd have to wait until 2011 free agency. Then also hope there is someone of his level available who would sign for the MLE or less. Ellis + Jackson + Wright + $3M → McGrady + Taylor + Cook -Rockets cut $5.74M from team salary, get under LT -Warriors get out of $71M+ in future salary beyond 2010 Ellis, Brooks, Lowry Ariza, Barry, Budinger Battier, Jackson, Wright Scola, Landry, Dorsey Andersen, Hayes, Yao OR Ellis + Jackson + Wright + $3M → McGrady & Brooks + Landry + Wright + Cook + White (non-guaranteed) + $3M → Nash -Rockets add $2M to team salary -Suns reduce team salary by $2.83M -Suns can get under LT by moving Cook at trade deadline with the $3M Nash, Ellis, Lowry Ariza, Barry, Taylor Battier, Jackson, Budinger Scola, Dorsey, Pops Andersen, Hayes, Yao For Rockets to get under LT: Barry + Hayes + $3M to under the cap team at trade deadline -Rockets reduce team salary by $4.2M -other team makes over $1M cash profit & Lowry - to under the cap team or for TE -RFA status, bird rights, rookie contract, & ability makes appealing trade target for contenders and non-contenders OR Battier - for 1M less, 25% less - $100k (max allowable) is around 1.4M *Perhaps target the draft rights to Freeland or Splitter for either Lowry or Battier?
I'm not a fan of S-Jax (with his age albatross waiting to happen), but for both Ellis and Wright I'd be more than happy to part with T-mac+ filler. If you look at past GS dealings they get rid of players they don't like for almost nothing, so maybe DM can dangle the Tmac bait and they'll bite. Get 'ir done Morey! lol
If we could get him that would be great no matter who we gave up for him but I just dont see that happening so I wont get too excited. I could bring up that Battier and Brooks for Monte trade but people would just shoot it down even though you get a younger player who scores in the 20's to go with Tmac and Yao. That would be rediculous sick offense to go with Arizas defense and Scola, Tmac, and Lowry. Maybe Yao later in the year and dont have to worry about him not resigning either.
Yeah that's true but the report I read said that Nellie is the who was making the attempt to trade with Dallas. It said all he want is expiring contracts. But we all know rumors or rumors until it happens.
This is exactly how I feel. Not a huge fan of Jackson. I don't hate him or anything, but he isn't an efficient scorer, yet takes a lot of shots, isn't the defender Artest was (though I think can be underrated in that department), yet has the potential to be a similar negative locker room influence and is older, and is getting paid too much. That said, I love Monta's game. He really started to kick it in gear the last month of the season last year (basically after playing a pre-season esque first month for him after coming back from injury), and I think he would be both awesome in a Adelman system and awesome paired with Brooks. Brandon Wright would be a nice addition. Nowhere near Randolph's potential or athleticism, but he's tall, lanky..an efficient scorer, a better than average shot-blocker. I'd throw in a future protected draft pick if necessary to get the deal done. Obviously, still not a championship team without Yao, but with a healthy Yao, well that team is definitely stacked. Backcourt/Wings = Brooks, Lowry, Ellis, Jackson, Ariza, Battier Frontcourt/Bigs = Scola, Landry, Hayes, Andersen, Wright, Yao It is a lot of long-term salary to take on. And the team is definitely the weakest defensive team they've fielded in a while. But I do think there is a defensive lineup in there (Lowry, Ariza, Battier, Wright, Yao), and the offense should be the most fun to watch since the championship years (or before). If all GSW want is expirings, I'd hope Morey is on the phone.
I love Monta's game too, but I'd be unwilling to take back Jack or Maggette's contract in a deal for him. Battier and Cook would be something I would consider. Mac for Ellis/Claxton/Turiaf could work as well.
Exactly dude, I really don't care about Jackson, all i want from the Warriors is Ellis(23) & Wright(21), but I do disagree with the comparison to Randolph, I think wright athleticism and length are superior to Randolph's, but Randolph does have a superior skill set on the perimeter which gives him a higher ceiling dough. <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wo5DUPKderw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wo5DUPKderw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object> <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DG_jjK65QyE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DG_jjK65QyE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>
