Just caught the end of this on ESPN. They said he was "immobilized" from the shoulders down. No further details yet.

isn't this guy only getting paid like 400k? I hope he's okay. He was great for G-state in the regular season and somewhat in the playoffs.

Oh man this is real tragic. I hope this isn't anything like Everett's injury. He has a bright future.

What did they call TJ ford's injury- a shocker? A stinger? the immobilization for Ford was temporary

Hope for the best for this young man

This is the most updated thing I found on him, it gives a more detail about his injury but still does not say anything about how serious his injury actually is. I hope everything is ok with him, this seems to be pretty damn serious.

Warriors guard Ellis suffers apparently serious injury during practice

LAIE, Hawaii -- The Warriors' trip to paradise turned disastrous Friday night as third-year guard Monta Ellis suffered a serious injury during practice that left him lying motionless on the floor of BYU-Hawaii's gymnasium for more than 30 minutes.

The injury occurred at 7:25 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time when Ellis, the NBA's reigning Most Improved Player, tried to knife between two other players beyond the top of the key during a five-on-five scrimmage. The play went awry when Ellis tried to squeeze between Brandan Wright, who had been setting a screen for him, and defender Austin Croshere.

Wright told team spokesman Raymond Ridder that Ellis banged his head against Wright's hip. After the contact, Ellis turned 180 degrees, appeared to look in the direction of Marco Belinelli, who had been covering Ellis on the play, and then slowly fell to the ground.

Ellis lay there, face-down with his arms and legs extended, until paramedics arrived at 7:58 p.m., strapped him to a backboard and wheeled him out of the Cannon Activities Center on a stretcher. His only movement during that time was some twitching in his right leg.

Ridder said that Ellis was being transported to Castle Medical Center outside of Kailua, approximately 30 to 45 minutes away from the BYU-Hawaii campus. As of 9 p.m. Hawaii time, there was no further word on Ellis' condition.

Ridder said Ellis moved both arms and one leg while being strapped in for transport to the hospital, although this was not

observed by reporters on the scene. Ridder also said Ellis was conscious and spoke to teammates before being wheeled out, although players were not allowed to speak to the media directly.

The injury did not seem to be that serious initially. But as athletic trainer Tom Abdenour attended to Ellis, the severity of the situation grew more clear. Abdenour could be seen stroking Ellis' right arm, as though to see if the 21-year-old from Lanier High School in Jackson, Miss., could feel his touch.

Concerned teammates stood around in a ragged circle until coaches instructed them to shoot free throws, presumably hoping to restore some normalcy to the situation. Team captain Baron Davis lay alongside Ellis for several minutes to offer comfort.

Ellis, who turns 22 in three weeks, is in the final season of a three-year deal he signed after being drafted in the second round (40th overall) in 2005. The expectation around the league has been that he will receive a significant raise -- either from the Warriors or another team -- as an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Ellis missed only five games due to injury last season but had to pass on an invitation to serve on the scrimmage squad against Team USA this summer due to a back injury that forced him to stop working out for the better part of a month.

Ellis said the problem was congenital and called it "nothing serious, nothing life-threatening. It ain't gonna jeopardize my career."

It remains to be seen if the same can be said for this injury.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. But the fact he moved his limbs after the incident is a good sign.

Ellis, immobilized at Warriors practice, leaves hospital under his own power

Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis left a Hawaii hospital of his own accord shortly before midnight
, just hours after suffering an injury that had him immobilized and carted off the court during a training camp practice.

A battery of tests, including an MRI and a CT scan, came back normal and the injury is being diagnosed as a neck sprain, according to team officials. Ellis is listed as day-to-day.

Ellis is not likely to play in either exhibition against the Lakers this week as a precautionary measure.

According to ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher, the 21-year-old Ellis was trying to split a double team on a pick-and-roll when he went down Friday night. Ellis lay face down, prone for more than 25 minutes.

He was taken to Castle Medical Center in Kailua, which is about 40 minutes from the BYU-Hawaii campus where the Warriors are holding camp.

The team's trainer was able to speak to Ellis, so it appeared he was conscious, but there were no noticeable responses to tests for motion, particularly from the shoulders down.

Ellis was strapped onto a board to get him on a stretcher to be taken off the court, according to Bucher.

Brandan Wright, who apparently set the pick on the play, said Ellis banged his head on Wright's hip before turning and falling to the ground, reported The Contra Costa Times on its Web site.

In April, Ellis won the Most Improved Player award for his transformation from an unsung Mississippi high schooler to a speedy scoring threat for the improving Warriors.

Ellis edged Sacramento's Kevin Martin by three points in the closest voting in the award's history, earning 47 first-place votes and 352 points from a media panel. Martin, the Kings' high-scoring guard, got 44 first-place votes and 349 points.

Ellis averaged 16.5 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds this season with new coach Don Nelson and the revitalized Warriors, who returned to the playoffs after a 12-year absence.

The second-round pick's improvement on his 6.8-point scoring average in his rookie season was the NBA's largest increase this year, and he caught the nation's attention with a dunk-filled 28-point performance in the Rookie Challenge during All-Star weekend.
