We have a ping pong table at work and I kick arse. I doubt any of you brehs can come close to me in ping pong....
I loved that - he played the soft defense style, which is what I would also call 'old man' ping pong.. mostly because I am now an old man and that has always been my style. I LOVE playing ping pong against the kids who just want to smash smash smash.. love just calmly returning the ball with a little spin into the opposite direction they are expecting, making them race back and forth around the table, making them dance like puppets on strings.. lol
I would play you brehs if I was still in college. I've been in countless tournaments in my time.. and have never passed the first round.
If both players played your style, it would be an incredibly uninteresting ping pong match (see ladies tennis). Your opponent generates all the pace while all of your strokes take that pace off the ball. You can play that style, but its not very respectable.
lol none of these were better than the video in the OP. And I'm not sure they were longer rallies. 4 person tennis rally is not as impressive as 2 person
I disagree on the 4 person rally. YOu have to add another factor in the equation where you have to take turns hitting the ball and getting out of each other's way. so if a rally goes that long in doubles it's a much harder feat to accomplish. It's not like tennis where either guy can hit at any time. And the video on the bottom I think is higher quality point. Both guys are toe to toe instead of one guy playing offense one guy playing defense. Also the 2nd video ends in a forced error unlike the OP's post where it ends in an unforced error.
"When he hit that shot [on the line] I said 'whoa-hoa, someone's going to be in for a long night tonight'..." - Robert Horry in "Clutch City" *The guy who hit the ball on the line here, however, lost, and Dream won.
Well I'm certainly not going to argue which is better, to each his own. But doubles rallies are typically much shorter and biggie nailed why. Plus in singles you have a better idea of what shot will come back at you and can kind of plan ahead. But because your partner hits the last shot, you have to react to that not to mention the opponent's return. And longer doesn't necessarily mean better. These shots and saves below are far more impressive IMHO despite shorter overall rallies. But I'm still glad that video went viral versus nothing. I genuinely have no idea if the casual observer can tell if these are tougher (all the players are another tier higher). <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cLv5GnYrzzY?rel=0&start=217&end=&autoplay=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
People who don't watch ping pong have no idea lol. We both posted ma long, how many could even tell the difference between him and the chinese reject in the OP.
Yeah, the game is perfect for youtube highlights, and event organisers are catching on. Being able to watch every point in a match within 10 action packed minutes is great! Hopefully the sport becomes more popular in other countries and eventually less dominated by China and ex-China players.
I don't think I can wear those short shorts though when I turn pro. Will they allow baggy (by ping pong standards) Rockets shorts?
We have one at my office in our atrium/eating area and it is packed every day at lunch and there are games throughout the day. I love ping pong but I have the hand-eye coordination of a newborn so I don't go over there too often. The games get pretty intense, completely sweat through your shirt and get in arguments kind of intensity. This one old quiet tiny Vietnamese guy plays every now and then and dominates everyone he plays. It is funny to watch.
I was 2nd place in IM ping pong back in 2010... no big deal. Lost to an Asian in the championship. I could hit a ping pong ball a quarter mile.
