Mitt Romney Criticized By Franciscan Friars For Comments On The Poor WASHINGTON-- The Franciscan Action Network (FAN), a Catholic faith-based advocacy and civic engagement organization, is strongly criticizing Mitt Romney's recent ads and rhetoric regarding welfare programs and welfare recipients, urging him to spend some time in low-income communities. "Our Christian tradition teaches that we are to treat the poor with dignity and to prioritize the poor in our policies as a society," the organization said in a press release on Thursday. "At a time when millions are struggling financially, it is degrading to talk about the 'dependency' of people hurting in this economy, as Gov. Romney did recently." Nuns Challenge Romney To Spend A Day With Them To Learn About Plight Of America’s Poor The group behind the Nuns On A Bus tour that highlighted the ill-effects of the House Republican budget in congressional districts across the country is now setting its sights on the party’s presidential candidate, inviting Mitt Romney to spend a day with the nuns to learn about the plight of America’s poorest citizens. “Recent advertisements and statements from the campaign of Governor Romney demonize families in poverty and reflect woeful ignorance about the challenges faced by tens of millions of American families in these tough economic times,” stated Sister Simone Campbell. “We are all God’s children and equal in God’s eyes. Efforts to divide us by class or score political points at the expense of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters reveal the worst side of our country’s politics.”
“Somebody who’s fallen from the middle class to poverty, in my opinion is still middle class.” -- Mitt Romney
"I’m not concerned about the very poor; we have a safety net there." Mitt Romney Thanks, Mitt, now can you restore the funding for that safety net, please?
McMark, you should know by now that libertarians (read atheists) and many conservatives cannot be shamed by moral arguments or compassion about the suffering of "poors" as bigtexxx and others call them.. Their God is the market, "the invisible hand" (of God) and the suffering of mere mortals is to no avail.
