You win money for telling the truth...and people lose. How hard is it? Sure, you end up embarassing yourself, but you know that going in. If you have anything you are hiding, it is going to come out. I just don't understand how people lose.
Yes, and TV networks never utilize deception to try to make money. Sure people do stupid things, but the idea that there is someone out there that would have done all those immoral things, been willing to go on a show and put it out there for everyone including her husband to hear, and then lie when asked if she thought she was a good person smacks of ridiculous unbelievability. Shows like this don't play out that perfectly for networks. Only a scripted, acted show would get you that type of result.
I dunno. Nobody wants to admit they're a bad person. So they rationalize their behavior to feel good about themselves. They spin a web of bull**** that they trick themselves into believing. "I shoot up with heroin daily but it's OK because . . . ", "I steal money from my roommate but it's OK because . . .", "I cheat on my girlfriend but it's OK because . . . ". I've witnessed it. I've lived with some of these people. The shows argument is that deep inside they know that's all a bunch of crap. They know they're a crappy person but they don't want to admit it, especially to themselves.
What the hell? American Idol and its ilk definitely count. They are just as stupid, and their audiences are way more gullible.
Oh, I understand that people can lie to themselves. And I suppose it is possible that in their first season the show found a jackpot contestant that had done all these things wrong, was willing to talk about it on national television and then was self-delusional enough to lie about her own self doubts as to her inner morality giving the audience that delicious sense of justice in her not winning any money.......but that all seems VERY unlikely to me, which is why I will continue to believe it is fake.
I just take it that any contestant applicants who were good honest people got rejected in a nanosecond. People are stupid and are willing to do pretty much anything to get on TV. There's no shortage of idiots willing to make asses out of themselves in front of the rest of America. Reality shows aren't hurting for contestants. So I'm not surprised that the producers would find a few "jackpot" contestants like this one. The producers are also smart. They sprinkle in seemingly easy questions that trip people up. Just like the question that eliminated this chick. She's deluded herself in order to feel better about herself. But what is the polygraph going to read? The lie that she believes on a superficial level or the cold hard truth that her subconscious recognizes. It's a trick question because one part of her believes she's a good person while another part believes she isn't. Which one is the polygraph going to interpret as the truth? She has no idea.
her husband just sat there and didn't even look pissed off when she admitted she cheating on him, i would of just walked out
The show is pretty crappy, and I wouldn't be all that surprised at something like this - but I think you are giving the world too much credit. That what you could described could also happen wouldn't shock me as 'ridiculously unbelievable' either, unfortunately.
HERES A SCENARIO. Q:Have you ever killed a person? A: NO I have never killed a person. The Voice: That answer is... FALSE. *gasps* That would be siick moment
Esp after asking her a series of questions that when answered truthfully .. . would put doubt in anyone's mind While she might have thought she was a good person after admitting to all the crap she did .. . in her mind. . the totality of it hit her and she was like. . . d*mn . . . I did all this. . . maybe I'm not a good person Rocket River
