I know Smeg and I did. Cat had everything and could have been a Gilbert Arenas type player if he were more selfish.
Can you pull up the Chronicle article of Cuttino getting a tooth cap pulled at halftime of a game with no anaesthesia, then jumping off the training table to score 20+ halftime points FTW while sucking air into a dry hole in his tooth. Talk about high tolerance for pain. I think it was a Minnesota game. Cat, Francis and Landry losing teeth.
A consummate pro. I wish him the best with his health. I can't remember how many times i chuckled when he blew by defenders who forgot he was a lefty. Unique player, fun to watch, and my favorite on all the cat/franchise teams. A 2nd round pick out of a small school no less. Enjoy retirement, Cat, you've earned it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PyPwNi1c7s8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PyPwNi1c7s8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I love Cat, but lets get real, I am sure Cat would be the first to say that that is ridiculous..........
please, let's not get into an argument and ruin Cat's retirement thread. Besides, Steve would be the first to say that that is ridiculous, not Cat.
It would be great if Cat came back to Houston to do color next to Worrel. I can't listen to Clyde babble and laugh for no reason much longer! Cat seems to be well spoken and we already know he loves the camera.
just for the Rudy Gay people: THIS IS BS we could have had Rashard Lewis. Good luck cat get healthy man.
During his hay days in Houston, with the system Rudy was running, Cat was unstoppable as an 1 on 1 player.
Mobely is the most 'Rocket' off all the post-championship era rockets. He got lumped in with Steve Francis and Moochie Norris - sort of the middle guy in that trio - but I think he is in a superior category. Seemed to love the game, did whatever he was asked - remember, he played point that Brent Price year - i have nothing but good thoughts for Cuttino. Maybe he could coach and help develop younger players. Sorry about the health problems, best of luck to you Cuttino!
Man, thats not the proper argument. Don't wine about Rashard Lewis, because we woudn't have gotten Yao Ming if we got Rashard. I know which one I would have... Rudy Gay would be basically a free allstar added to a playoff team. We got the pick that we could have made to pick Gay not because the team sucked, but because the team had major injuries. How did Spurs get Duncan?
Here's the updated article post press conference. Cat has the same diagnosis as Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers. [rquoter] http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6159743.html GREENBURGH, N.Y. — New York Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley retired from the NBA on Thursday because of heart disease that he said has gotten worse. Mobley said doctors told him he faced significant risks if he kept playing. The 11-year veteran said by walking away now, he could live a long life. Mobley announced his decision at a press conference at the Knicks' training center, where he confirmed he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The condition causes the heart muscle to thicken, making it harder to pump blood, and the 33-year-old Mobley said he had no choice but to end his career. "The specialists I've seen made it clear that my heart condition has gotten worse and I couldn't continue to play professional basketball without putting my health and life in serious danger,'' Mobley said. "As much as I want to keep playing in the NBA, I have no choice but to follow the advice of my doctors and step away from the league.'' <b>Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in people under 30 years old and was linked to the deaths of former Boston Celtics forward Reggie Lewis and Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers.</b> The Knicks acquired Mobley last month from the Los Angeles Clippers - a trade that may ultimately have saved his life. An EKG during his physical showed an irregularity with the heart, which Mobley already knew existed. The Knicks decided to perform an MRI exam, which revealed the more serious condition that previously had gone undetected. Mobley then saw four specialists around the country, who performed additional tests and provided him literature about the disease that convinced him to stop playing. "The doctors said to not chance it and I feel as though they're right, having an 8-year old son, having a long life ahead of me, it's the smart thing,'' Mobley said. "It's a tough thing to swallow, but things in life happen, but you have to keep going.'' Mobley averaged 16.0 points per game in 11 seasons with the Rockets, Orlando, Sacramento and the Clippers. He was expected to become the Knicks' starting shooting guard after the Nov. 21 trade. The Knicks could have voided the deal because of the health concerns, but waived the physical requirement because the trade allowed them to move Zach Randolph's contract, freeing salary cap space for the summer of 2010. "I thought this would be the perfect trade with him in it, but I would never put a player out there that's at the risk that he would be at,'' Knicks president Donnie Walsh said. "None of this is as important as somebody's life. None of it. Period,'' Walsh said. "So I'm glad that we had a doctor that put him through tests that showed it, because the risk was there.'' Walsh said he wasn't sure yet what options the Knicks had to fill the vacant roster spot and would begin researching it Friday. Mobley said he'd thought about the scene of Gathers collapsing on the court during a game. Mobley said it factored into his decision. "Say if you were to play, the worry, the worrisome of people watching you, if you were to fall, or it's just an elbow or just an ankle, that's scary. And then every single day just being scared for you, I think that's a selfish thing, also,'' he said. "<b>Even though you love something so much, and I am in love with basketball, but sometimes you have to get a divorce.</b>'' [/rquoter] That's a classic quote by Mobley at the end.
A great Rocket. I, too, rooted for him after he left the Rockets. I happened to see on TV one of his last Clippers games. Funny thing is I can't rememberif the Rockets were even playing.
I remember hearing a story on how Cat would just not leave the gym, he was the only guy there and wouldn't leave. The true definition of a gym rat.
