I remember someone posting that he has more assists than other guys of his caliber. (Finley,Houston,Wally) He also averages about 22 points last year, I think, which was about the same as Finley. I guess he would have to average 40 points and 20 assists to ball, right?
Yeah, I saw that. But as long as he like the Rockets and doesn't bad mouth them, he's alright with me.
Mobley just isnt as experienced as cassell. That is why Cassell would helpp the rockets more. And plus he playd fo the rockets and he helpd them win 2 championships
According to this theory, we should trade Mobley for Jordan. (although he would stay put.) Jordan is very experienced and has 6 rings. So what if Mobley averages more than him? You also have to look at it like this. We shouldn't be comparing Mobley and Cassel, but Mobley and Steve. If Steve could do better at SG and Cassel could do better than Steve at PG, maybe. But I don't think the risk is worth taking. Now if Cassel could be our backup PG, I'd consider it. (as long as we keep our core.)
I agree that may happend, although that is not his position. But would that duo be better than Steve and Cat. If Cassel averages only 17 and 7, it may not be worth it. As for Sg being his natural position, I read he only played there at Maryland. Everywhere else he was a PG.
Nope another bad trade idea. Cassell is getting old while Mobes is better and will produce more in the long run. To get Cassell, the Rockets should only give KT or MoT (if it works.) That is all Cassell is worth to Houston.
If we really needed experience, we could always get a guy like Byron Russel. He has a lot of playoff experience and is a free agent. We probably won't get him though. My point is that if we need experience, we could always trade picks, KT, or somebody else for a older veteran. But we don't have to tear our backcout up to get that.
Sorry if I came by as a butt. I go a little overboard when it comes to arguing. My last arguement I probably gained about 20 posts!
I feel that the issue we need to look at is not Cassell vs Mobes or C+F vs M+F but how the overall team would look like. Mobley is a great player but he is forcing us to play Stevie out of a position that he can be most highly utilized. This opinion is shared by most people- including the experts so there might be some truth to this. On the other hand, Sam offers Stevie the luxury of playing both positions depending on matchups cause he can also play the 2 without loosing anything or a lot on the offensive capablility department. Defense, I'll give Mobes the slight edge on that. Who can teach the whole team? We have these great young prospects with nobody to teach him how it is done. Not just on "how to run a team" but how to WIN. Which player can make all their teamates elevate their play? Allen and Big Dog were going nowhere until Sam showed up. Not to mention that Sam is MONEY when it comes to crunch time on big games. I feel that he is comparable to Horry when it comes to that. In addition to having those 2 rings, look at his accomplishments: * Won the Fleer Shootaround at Jam Session during 2001 All-Star Weekend * Competed in the Fleer ShootAround during the 1998 NBA All-Star * Won the Fleer ShootAround during the 1996 All-Star Weekend in San Antonio, outshooting Reggie Miller, Chuck Person and Mitch Richmond Aren't those impressive? hehehehe Mobely better than Cassell or vice versa? Opinion not fact Stevie better at being a point guard? Opinion not fact Stevie he always been a 2? Fact(outside of Rockets) Cassells age and winning history? Fact Mobleys winnng history? yet to be written Me hitting the bong? Opinion - until otherwise proven
You are ignoring the fact that Stevie doesn't want to move to 2. That's why Jay Williams was never a factor in the draft. Otherwise, Jay Williams would have been our future PG and Stevie at SG. So no matter what arguments you make, Stevie is staying put at the 1.
Stevie wants this and wants that. So Stevie will not do anything that he does not want to do even if you can make a good argument that this is good for the team? Even if this gets more W's and maximize his potential? I think we are making huge assumptions as to what the Franchise will or will not do.
The point of contention lies in that such a deal would not make the Rockets better as a team, especially defensively. Opposing teams would be posting Francis and Cassell up with alarming regularity and Francis would struggle to get his shot off against stronger, taller shooting guards in the NBA. With good team chemistry between Francis and Cuttino, why even make the deal knowing you aren't solving any of the Rockets' problems and are only making what problems do exist worse? The only thing that will win more games and maximize Steve's potential is to let him play the point guard position alongside Mobley as Nachbar, Griffin, and Ming develop. Trading for a point guard like Cassell who has done little ever since he left Houston and it's great supporting cast gets this team nowhere, no matter the rings he has.
Actually, I think it definitely would be an upgrade of the team. I always liked Egghead. First, though, Francis would have to sign a long term extension knowing Mobes would be gone. That said, Cassell has several more years ahead of him. A savvy veteran presence at point guard would be invaluable. I also think overall he's a much better player to have on a team than Mobley, not taking anything away from Cat's awesome scoring ability and improving game in other areas. Sam would instantly be a mentor for Francis and give the Rockets an experienced hand for the playoffs, and I think the Rocks would have a better chance at making the playoffs. As for having a small backcourt, heck, they play the three guard rotation anyway as it is. That's because Francis from the 2 is such a threat, and Mobes has to stay in--one of the best players on the team should be on the court. I imagine we'd give up Moochie, we wouldn't need him. Then Cassell and Francis splitting time and point duties would be lethal. Posting them up is not the threat that it once was with Ming and Griffin playing a zone. I'd be all for this trade in a heartbeat, although I haven't looked into the details such a trade would entail--they might change my opinion.
I agree that Francis should always do what's best for the team, but when you are the "Franchise" player and you are an all-star at PG and your SG was #12 in PPG for the entire league, why in the world would management want fight with Stevie and put him at 2?
