Why do you guys want to get younger? I thought we were trying to make the playoffs. We were out, one or 2 wins from making it this year, that means we already have a playoff team. We just need to find our coach, get Yao over here intime for training camp, and find ourselves a PF like PJ Brown who can rebound and play tough D.
Os, For me, its not about getting younger, but about getting the right pieces. While Steve is a superstar, I think its obvious he's not a natural PG. He's tried, but he would be a great SG with the ability to average 4-5 assists per game also. Maybe in 1-2 more years he could develop into more of a true point, but I think we'd be better off letting him be a superstar SG. Adding a true PG to the team, whether a rook or vet, would allow that transition and hopefully help Yao's involvement in the offense.
how would steve react to being moved to 2? There would go his chances of starting in the allstar game. He would be backing up Kobe I think he's a perfect 2, as long as someone other than Moochie is the PG
Francis has stated many times in public that he wouldn't mind moving to the 2 and would do anything for the team to win. But now that Rudy is not coach.........I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF HE WANTS TO REMAIN WITH THE ROCKETS! And All Star game.....voting is ....the 2 most popular guards. So if Francis and Marbury are the most popular guards.....then them two will start. If Kobe and Finley are the most popular guards....them two will start. It's just guards. And forwards.
Shark44,as for who would do the trade,I can't see neither Denver nor Milwaukee giving up Cat for their pick.Either because it's too high(nugs) or because they don't need a SG(Bucks). On the other hand,Washington, with the departure of Stackhouse and Jordan will lack a go-to guy(Cat would love that!) and a consistant scorer. ALA
ALA, Understand, I was trying to show that a couple of team's in the lottery could use a scorer of Mobes caliber. While I'll agree Den probably wouldn't bite, I'm not sure that Bucks (w/prob loss of Payton) couldn't use Cat.
OK, since you brought it up, Otis THorpe was traded for a first round pick at age 35, as was Terrence Morris, among other luminaries. Yeah, that's value all right. 26-29 pick? OK, let's list them all from the last few years: Chris Jeffries, Dan Dickau, John Salmons, Samuel Dalembert, Jamal Tinsley, Tony Parker, Jake Tsaklidis, Mamadou Ndiyae, Primoz Brzezec, Erick Barkley, Vonteego Cummings, Jumaine Jones, Scott Padgett, Leon Smith If you think any of those players besides parker and arguably, on his best day, Jamal Tinsley, is better than Cuttino Mobley, then I am more certain than ever that you have never seen an NBA game. His contract expires in 2005 with an option for 2006, and he will be over 30 at that point. A rookie signing a contract this year will sign a 3 year deal that expires in 06 with an option for 07, and will be under 24 at that point. Nice try, buddy. Yes, Cuttino doesn't fit here. And Scottie Pippen didn't fit here either, and Rasheed Wallace was problematic for Washington, etc, etc. Sometimes players don't fit, therefore they move on. That doesn't mean that they have no value, as you assume, wrongly. But wait, if his contract, as you claim, is not good for the long term, why would he only go to a lotto team that needs long term solutions? That makes no sense at all. You are just out to bash him whatever way you can. Ok, and finally do you want me to compare cuttino's rooke stats with those of Freddie Jones and Kareem Rush? Let me just say that, as a second round draft pick, he was a lot better than them, and was a starter for the Rockets by midseason and in the playoffs on a veteran team that year. Rush and Jones never even smelled the starting rotation, much less started games in the playoffs. But you go ahead and look up the stats yourself and you will still be wrong. Look, I know you hate cuttino, but pay attention to the NBA draft this year and you will see that things could be much worse.
Terence Morris. As requested: Fred Jones 6 min, 1pt, 0.5 reb, 0.3 ast, 0.3 stl, 0.05 blk Kareem Rush 11 min, 3 pts, 1 reb, 1 ast, 0.1 stl, 0.1 blk Cuttino Mobley 30 min, 10 pts, 2.3 reb, 2.5 ast, 0.9 stl, 0.5 blk
Cato, Cat & #44 pick or future #1 for Thomas and the #8 pick. Milwalkee gets a quality SG and the defensive center they need, Redd and Mason can take Thomas's 3 spot for much cheaper. (This would only make sense if GP or Cassell were moved or GP didn't re-sign though.) We get a way overpaid but good offensive 3 in Thomas and the #8 pick to take a PG or PF. Cat Mobley is definetly worth around a 10 pick, certainly more than a 20 something pick. NJ would crap in their pants if they could land Mobley for filler plus the #22 pick, the #51 pick and a future 1st round pick. Boston would offer Erik Williams and the #20 pick in a millisecond as well..
