There is not difficult to find a score these days but find a Defense Player of the jear finalist at his 2nd season is difficult. Still think Rockets made a mistake pick green over Mobley. Imagine smith, henderson/wembayaba, Mobley Sengun lineup
but with Mobley defensive impact he would have messed up the tank and they would have made the play in back to back seasons, so they wouldn't even be in the race for those other players,Mobley is KG/Duncan/Walton wrapped in one if you let the mob script the narrative
In the votes, Evan might be a distant 3rd, still to get recognized is impressive. The other two might have better defensive numbers JJJ likely to win, though he missed some time (played 63 games this yr), while Lopez and Mobley played the whole season.
It's Jaren Jackson's Hakeem trophy unless they think he fouled out too much. Brook had a strong finish.
It is not just a mistake but an open love letter to Offense because of Silas and put Defense on Ignore.
There's a good case to be made that he should win it this year. 1) JJJ only plays 28 mpg and missed a ton of games 2) Lopez isn't even the best defensive player on his own team But still, I'd probably give it to JJJ this year. Going forward though, the award looks like it has Mobley's name all over it.
I certainly hope that the Rockets' Wemby will have something to say about that! I just think he'll need a couple years to bulk up. That's probably the last thing Mobley needs - just a few more pounds of muscle. He can still get pushed around by certain opponents.
Wemby will never bulk up sufficiently to be a NBA center, and if he does, he will be even more of an injury risk than he is now. He is one of the more risky no. 1 picks in my opinion, but I guess his up-side is so tremendous that teams will have to pick him if available. He also plays against pretty crappy competition, so his numbers are inflated. He should still be a very good weak side shot blocker and I do think his offense will be exceptional in a year or 2 when he gets used to the NBA speed and athleticism. I could see him having a very Bill Walton like career, where he is integral to a championship run or 2, but with severe interruptions due to injury.
