That is a very cynical post. I completely agree with you. Cat played his heart out in Sacramento, got his money from the Clips and he's sliding downhill. I was very disappointed in him during last year's playoffs. Sam may be "shot-happy" sometimes, but he has twice the heart Cat has.
Never was much of a Mobley fan. But where he is now in his career is mega-miles from where he would have been if he and Francis had remained teammates. IMHO, the experiences of the Kings & Clips have been very beneficial to Mobley from both personal and professional aspects. In contrast, SF's teammates have been very young or older just collecting a pay check and the coaches have been...how should it...less skilled or much more disciplinarian than Cat's. I'm not going to ponder it for very long, but the thought did cross my mind...what if Francis had gone to the Clips or Kings and Mobley had gone to the Knicks?
I think my sig pretty much shows my take on Cat. Yep, whatever Cat and a woman and another woman with a penis and a midget do to a donkee thats their gosh darn bidness.
what the hell are you talking about? if there was anything no one ever questioned about cat it was his heart. the dude played all-out, every game, often for more than 40 minutes per game. played on two hurt ankles back in 2001 when all 4 other starters were out. played as hard as anyone in his early years, then played as hard as anyone even while on what most felt was an undervalued contract. then he played in orlando and sactown just like he had played earlier (according to all of the stats) and finally got his big contract. while his PER fell off a bit last year, he averaged 15 ppg in a reduced role but had his 3rd best rebounding season and 2nd best assist season. hardly the season of someone who stopped caring after getting a big contract. the only thing that really plummeted was 3 pt shooting, but i have my doubts that he stopped really trying to make shots after getting a new contract. of course his playoffs weren't very good (at least the 2nd round) but again, what, he tried hard all season, had a good first round of the playoffs, then stopped caring or having heart in the 2nd round of the playoffs? mobley is 31 now so if his age has caused him to fall off a bit, then that's just natural. cassell is awesome (in case tinman jumps on this sentence) but he wishes he ever played as hard on defense as mobley. really your post was about as stupid as could be and a slap to cuttino's entire career and dedication to playing basketball. as for hooroo's post, you can't renegotiate contracts in the nba so that's irrelevant and apparently one of the guys he is letting start is quinton ross, he of 2 years experience, the 5 ppg average, and a pathetic 7.3 PER. cuttino has easily outperformed him up to this point.
Rockets2K and Tinman, I meant, "shot-happy Cassell," to refer to how Mobley probably thinks of him and why he wants to be on the 2nd squad with Shawn Livingston. He says he'll do whatever is good for the team, but since when has he ever thought that way. And now his coach, Dunleavy, has to deal with this in public saying how it's his decision who plays with Cassell and not Mobley's. i agree with cbfc, Mobley doesn't want to share shots with Cassell. He knows Livingston will focus more on passing him the ball.
Disagree all you want and call my post "stupid". Fine. But Cat's performance last season was disappointing and he laid an egg against Phoenix no matter how you slice it. I'm not indicting his whole career, just last year. Because of his time on the Rockets (and Kings), I wanted Cat here last summer with our MLE and now I'm glad we didn't get him. If he had just been average against the Suns they would have made the WCFs. Sam is waaay over the hill but the guy has special something in him that most NBA players just don't have, including Cat.
darnit partner, now y did have to go and say that, i just lost respect for you! I miss Cat : (....lol, but u're prob right, i can see him comin off the bench firing up jumpers......he'd actually be the perfect SG for the Rockets right now........
good to see the sarcasm meters are off again the cat clearly played a different role last season for those who are just reading the box score or espn highlights and once again played through injuries last season.... the guy gives it all for his team and wants to win... surely that is something to be praised in professional sports these days
The real reason Mobes is 2nd string now - they want to cut down on technicals : http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=118739
look, i'm not so sure how serious you are, but your link just proves my point...just because Mobley is the sexiest player in the NBA does not mean he's not a drama queen as well. It's clear to me that he's making Dunleavy squirm. I mean, look at Dunleavy's quotes....he doesn't know what to do about Mobley's comments other than to basically say, "I'm in charge, no Mobley." Classic drama queen scenario.
Mobley was nothing if not erratic, but that just made him all the more likeable off the court. he'll be still a contributor in the NBA for a few years to come should he choose. Class act.
Actually I think he started at point that season. The starting line up was something along the line-up Cat, Dickerson, Pippen, Charles Barkely, and Hakeem.
