The stats also "shoot to hell the notion" that anyone would call him a "20ppg/40%" shooter like so many Mobley reactionaries claimed. Yeah, lets just knock 3.5% off his average and apologize for why Brent Barry shot 43.1% in his 1st 5 years. And let's bench him and say he'll never be good, despite being one of only 3 players to increase their shooting % each of the last 4 years....(Mobley, Peja, and Dirk). I understand the reactionary standpoint; it is a simple matter of fan reactions to losses. The Mobley lovers see the new sweet stroke and top notch driving/finishing ability and can see how he can fit in many offenses if you can just take Shandon, Cato and a slumping Walt off the court--2 down, and 1 to go...lol! But only hatas blatantly exaggerate to make Mobley look bad.
That's so true. It isn't just a stat aberration; his midrange jumper (especially, off the dribble) is just much smoother. You can see it.
43mpg?? That's an insane amount of playing time. I hope they don't burn the Cat out just as he is entering what should be his prime years.
Oh yeah, it's good that someone mentioned Cat's 43 minutes. Do those numbers include minutes? Because if they don't, then we should be looking at how he ranks in FG% rather than points.
Funny. I have been telling my mother for years that it is regardless and not irregardless. I think I will print that up for her. I was thinking the same thing as you when I read it but my grammar sucks to bad to be too critical of others...especially Clutch's. Oh yeah I almost forgot...Cats a bad ass!
mobley sixth in scoring for the second half of the season what a great stat. hopefully he does this well all year next year, he deserves to be on the all-star team.
Cola, I don't know if you can read the board now that you're banned, but the msn's interpretation of the word seems strict. Other grammarians have noted an increase in acceptance for irregardless. Granted the word is illogical (I tried to defend the term last year, but stopped doing so when I recognized its structure). BTW... you hatas and apologists should just plug your #s into SPSS. You can download it for free (from spss.com). Run ANOVA, or partial correlation or something and lets stop having this conversation every other week (3x a week during the season).
Who said I was banned? I would hope Clutch would not ban me because of a joke. (it was a joke, btw, although I am a grammar freak.) He could ban me, but I think he's better than that. I hope. I appreciate all the love though. Edit: I went to play basketball and ate some dinner, that's why I temporarily stopped posting. I'm not on here ALL day.
Well Mobes is good. Isn't he the last remaining Rocket from the last playoff squad? Cat and Franchise, best damn backcourt! Period.
Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyhow, I think Cat should only get more productive with a center with range and passing ability, and improved PF play (EG, KT, MoT improving), plus Francis to draw the defense all year. I'm not sure when Ming and EG develop that Cat'll still average 20+ but I think he can average upper teens consistently throughout most of the rest of his career.
I hate to be like this, but what the difference between Mobley putting up good numbers on a sorry team and Brand (with the bulls),Miller(Cavs) or even Marc Jackson(with the warriors)? Everytime someonethose guys stats, the first words out was he did those on a sorry team, but Mobley does them on a sorry team and its different. SAR and Bibby did it with a vancuver team and everyone on this board was claiming how francis did it on a 45 win team and those guys did it on a sorry team. Which is it going to be?
So what does it matter mobley put good numbers on a bad team. Bibby put up good numbers with sac and brand with the clip. Mobley is one of our best players and should be given his respect instead of being criticized.
omg, just b/c this is a "cuttino" thread, doesn't mean you have to be a homer and lick his balls . . . he is nowhere near kobe . . . that's ridiculous
and i'll go out on a limb and say there are a good eight or nine shooting guards in the league, that, given 43 mpg, and a role on a 15-22 team w/ no franchise, would eclipse his "numbers", although "numbers" aren't really the reason they're better . . . i'm not a "cat hater", he's a baller, but all this .hometown.non.objective.ness. sickens me [edit @ rc cola] *chuckles* . . . *points to shaq* . . . *points to kobe's numbers being barely less than cat's, despite shaq* . . . *points to hypothetical of kobe being on the rox for 43 mpg . . . and no other scoring option* . . . see the light? [/edit]
*points to Cato and Morris* *sees no one even 5 feet close to them* *see 2 or 3 men on Shaq* get the point? I also fail to see why mpg means he gets tons of shots. If I remember correctly, Mobley avgs about 18 or so shots per game, while Kobe gets about 26. In fact, most of those guys avg more shots per game, I would think. Edit: Ok, memory did not serve me well. Mobley did avg about 18(18.4) but Kobe avg 20. Kobe had about 4 points on Mobley. Still, look at my reason above. All this said, I do think Kobe is a good sg, and as of now is better than Mobley. JMO.
I think I should break down some of Mo Taylor's stats and see what kind of reactions it gets. Problem is, I don't know how to.
