Do the people saying he shoots a lot realize how much Rafer Alston shoots?

He took 12.5 shots a game at a ~40% clip on a good team while Mo took 13.9 shots a game at a ~44% clip on a bad team. How many shots would Rafer have taken on that team?

Oh, so the difference is that he's a young chucker and not an old chucker? Well John Hammond must be out of his mind because he's putting a player that keeps getting better every year on the market. I thought rebuilding teams wanted to keep young, improving players? You must see something he doesn't.

Before we start arguing about Mo's merits, please tell us how many bucks games you watched last year? I can't have a rational conversation against someone who can't put numbers in context. He's on the trading block and bucks fans want him gone badly. It's because of his play, not off-court issues. I very much doubt you watched any bucks games besides the one he had against he rockets. If you're going to spout numbers, start by telling us how many games you watched.

A Young Antoine Walker even as a chucker was pretty good

MrButtocks - I have wathed 15-20 Bucks games and unlike u, I watch the entire game and team and not just some softie 7 fter. Also, calling him a chucker is just dumb or ignorant, u decide which one. In all my yrs of playing up to collegiate ball have 14 atts and 48% been called chucking. Chucking is 39% with 12.5 atts. So lets see, one guy shoots almost 50%, avg 17ppg 6asst and 85ft while another guy takes 12.5 shots, 13ppg 5asst and 70% ft and ur asking who is the better player?

I will line my basketball knowledge and experience against anyone on this board. It doesn't mean I know evereything, but I know Mo Williams isn't a chucker because ur man Yi doesn't get enough touches.

I'm not saying a chucker is bad by default. Redd is numero uno on the bucks in terms of chucking and he'd be more useful on this team than Mo. Redd can probably play mostly off the ball; Mo dominates the ball to hoist up his shots.

What are you trying to say? If Mo W shoots 48 % isn't it a good thing then that he is a chucker? Or do you mean he messes with the "offensive flow" of the team ?

What is there to debate here? If you factor in all facets of the game including defense, Mo Williams overall is still much better than Rafer Alston. If the Rockets were to obtain Mo, he would be the starting pg whether Rafer is here or not.

Cmon Carl Herrera, even you have to admit that Mo Williams, who is in his prime and in his mid 20s, is an overall better basketball player than Rafer Alston. If you don't, then you're just not being objective.

I agreed that Mo Williams might be a better player overall, but that doesn't mean he fits the Rockets better than Rafer, especially for the starting PG role.. Mo Williams doesn't know anything about defense, Rafer does, so if we do get Mo William, it's better to start Rafer and let Mo come off the bench, which is quite expensive for a bench player...

So i guess the Rox thought Rafer was a defensivw stallwart right? So why he couldnt keep Williams from getting to the rack at the end of the game. I guess Eddie House is a great defender also. Its about team defense, so as long as he's willing to give effort, he can be a good defender. Now Rafer is a defensive stopper too? Rafer fits this offense as well as Williams did early in his career. Once the got rid of the guy and got a more consistent shooter/scorer, the kings offense became deadly. If u go to page 2 of this thread and look at the shot zones and u tell me why he cant fit.

I already told you about why, reread my post, Mo William don't know how to defense. If you think anyone can play defense, then that's like saying everyone can shoot at 40%+., including Rafer..

    That's cute.

    1) I'm a firm believer that consistently being on winning teams is an INDICATION of your ability to translate your skills to the team. Over many years you can correlate. If you re-read my post, I said that I am concerned. I didn't say Mo is a loser for life. You may disagree with that, but that would be your opinion.

    2) Who cares if no one else shot 40% as PG on a championship team? Rafer makes up 4-5M of the cap. As a starter, he could play 20 minutes or 40 minutes. Who cares. I think he is a better passer than Mo, and that's that.

Clearly I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you about who's watched more games. Although (lol) that is clearly how you would be more right about Mo Williams [/end sarcasm]. How about we just say you've seen more games? Happy?

    3) I'm not convinced Mo is a great midrange shooter. Most of all, I'm almost completely convinced that he can work with Yao. I certainly don't want to expose him to Yao if he looks like he wouldn't work out, and he has never had a major post presence to play with, and he makes 8M. Big risk. HUGE risk.

Nor am I sure he runs a fast break well. In fact, I know he doesn't run a fastbreak well. He doesn't think, he just runs to the basket. Rafer is good at fastbreaking considering he plays with Battier, T-Mac and Yao while Mo plays with quicker players.

Your analysis is just incomplete. This is not an easy "purchase". I just don't like the risk/return ratio honestly. I'm not saying it can't happen the way you see it. I'm just saying the likelihood of it happening is not as high as you think. Then getting rid of his 8-9M will be VERY difficult. Plus we will be handcuffed like a MOTHER if we only trade BJaxx and garbage for him. Not to mention they want our pick?

Your view is too narrow. I'm thinking of the foundation of this team (Yao, T-Mac, Adelman), the future (cap, age of foundation), and system. We can't waste a year anymore. If next year is the year that Yao/Mac are healthy, I don't want to have made a bad choice at PG.

You have shown before that you want a radical change in this team, therefore you would be more willing to take on risk. But I personally don't want the team to take huge risks. I don't think Morey will take huge risks either. I think we're close to a championship. All we have to do is shore up our roster to make sure that if yao/Mac go down, we can handle it. Mo Williams may be a solution - but again, the uncertainty is a bit high, and so is the price.

Not if his getting the shots he wants, out of the flow of the offense, means Yao's efficiency (for example) suffers.

For example, if he pounds the ball for 20 seconds of a shotclock looking to find himself a good shot each time, then either finds his shot or gives it up then that would:

    1) raise his FG%.
    2) Give the receiving player 4 seconds to find a shot.

This has, in the past at least, been used as a descrption of Mo Wiliiams' play by the way.

By your post its clear what ur looking for in players vs me. I'm looking for good players that can play effeciently and ur worried about players for Yao. Once again, this is the Houston Rockets, not Yao Rockets or Ming Rockets. I'm not worried about Yao. If ur a great player, u can play with anyone. Look no further than the celts, the heat of the past couple yr. Yao is part of a team which is part of a organization not the other way around. When Yao is retired or leaves, I will still be cheering for the Rox, how about u.

You say Williams isn't a good midrange shooter, go look at the hotzones from page 2 in this very thread if u need stats to back it up. U talk about playing defense. How many Celtics were known as defensive players other than K.G. and Posey. Defense in the nba is a team and scheme thing. U can have a team of long atheletic players like Denver, but the coaching and scheme don't allow and they don't believe in beng a good defense. Defending is a skill that requires buying into the scheme and committed to it. Shooting is entirely different. Good shooters are from early age. Rafer will never be a good shooter. He has never even been decent in his life.

Yu talk about fastbreak, how many fastbreaks do the team get now with the playground legend right now? A fast break is the primary which is 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 with a secondary break which is a trailer. If Rafe gets the rebound and Tracy doesn't fill the lane, and Yao can't really run followed by Battier running to the corner, how can u fast break?

Like I said earlier, its not about Yao or Tracy, its about the team. Improving the talent by upgrading the pg and or sf should be a priority. Wasting yrs is what they did when they traded a lotto pick for glue. Wasting is believing Rafer can help u win a title. Wasting is worrying about the feelings of anyone on the team. Its about rings and nothing else.
