There's no need to cut anyone. We have fifteen on our roster now -- 12 active plus three on IR. The only questions are will it be Barrett or Baker on IR with Sura. While Sura's there IR's probably him, Ward and Baker. When Sura's back, IR's probably Ward, Baker, Barrett.

My thoughts too when I saw this deal.

JVG and CD have astute viewed the situation and have made the best of it. It is indeed harder to move one $8M guy than move two $4M each guys.

    Kudos to JVG and CD.

How much money can we save with this deal? If we are getting to keep this year's 1st round pick I can live with it. We need a young player from the draft.

uh...because Malik is a overall better player than MO?
Cause he has actually been contributing on the best team in the league?

Cause Mo hasnt been contributing at all??

others have already covered this....this was the best we were gonna do for MO and his ****** contract...

we get out of Mo's contract sooner...

Cause ther is a outside possibility that Vin still has something left...he did used to be a damn good player once..if nothgin else....we cut him or put him on IL...doesn tmatter...we got rid of MO.

Do not forget, time is the most important issue for Yao. His career life is not so long as black players'. So if we can build a powerful team one year earlier, that means more than a lot.

I don't understand why everyone is saying a first round pick around 20 isn't going to contribute. Look around, Mavs has JHow, Griz has D Jones, Lakers has Sasha guy, Kings has Songala, Nug has Francisco Elson, -guys who from the 03 class- all being a starter or backup in rotation. (these teams all were in playoffs last season).

    It's only the Rockets, Guys.

Neither does this deal, anytime soon. We get cap relief one year earlier then letting Taylor or Anderson off the books. At least with Anderson, our bench gets stonger NOW.

Moochie gives us nothing (but slow play and turnovers). I pray we cut him and not Barret. I like Barret's quickness and pushing the ball up the floor (unlike Moochie). Far as Vin Baker, when did he get out of rehab?

My sentiment exactly. Whether he contributes to us now or not, MoT isn't a worse player than Rose.

That trade would've done absolutely nothing for us, considering the Mike James trade that just happened. We don't need another ball-handler.

Besides, Taylor and Anderson have practically identical contracts. In the 2006 offseason, we would have to worry about the $9.7 million to pay Anderson instead of throwing money at Yao. This way, at least we will have mounds of cap relief earlier...just as Yao's contract expires.

On top of all of this, we have 4 expiring contracts to dangle in front of other teams next season. Granted, I'm not happy about losing the first-rounder either, and i supposed it's conceivable we may have gotten more for Taylor. However, even you have to admit we're better off now than we were before.

We can complain all we want about not getting fair value and about how much Taylor is actually worth. The fact remains this team's overall status improved as a result of this trade.

The only way giving up this 1st rounder is worth it, is if Moochie does indeed have a team option in 2006 like hoopshype reports. That way if we pick up Mutombo's option this offseason, we would have over $20 million in expiring contracts with Moochie, Baker, Deke, Wesley and Spoon.

That's a lot of flexibility to make trades. Not that I would necessarily want to move Wes or Deke, but it's nice to have the option if it can bring us an impact player. Baron Davis got moved for Dale Davis and Speedy. C-Webb got moved for trash.

$20 million in expiring contracts could be very appealing, especially if they implement the uber-luxury tax for teams WAY over the cap.

The james deal, is the only thing stopping this board from expoding.

I hope we just cut these two. We have nice chemistry now and a slow moving Moochie is not needed.

Far as Baker, I have no idea what he can do. I thought CD's priority was getting a tall shot blocker to help Yao. Does he think Bakers the answer?

I still think Taylor, our 1st round pick (hell another future one pick) could of gotten us a young shot blocker.

I didn't like it at first but I think that is because I was shocked to see a first round pick and MOOCHIE involved. I overreacted and gave it one star. I'm happy now and changed it to 5 stars
