At least it is possible for us to buy out Baker's contract this summer if we can not trade it. Then we will have money to chase Swift or Chandler. This is a decent trade. I only feel a little pity that we can not DA this season. But I still think we can beat Sonic in the playoff.

Exactly. To get out from Mo's contract any, we would have to throw in a first. This is a trade which we will feel the full benefits later.

Future means there are probably some conditions on the pick: lotto-protected, team option or something like that. If there were no conditions, they'd have said the year, I would think.

How does this work exactly? Can you buy out a cap hit? Even then, I don't see how we have flexibility this summer?

Getting James makes this a decent deal. We knew Taylor was going to somebody. If this was the best CD could do, I'm not complaining much. Nice salary dump, it's a future pick (apparently), and we have James. Props to CD. We improved this season, and it helps us down the road.

I just checked the contracts and Vin Baker and Moochie are here to stay for this season and next. Team has an option on Moochie the third year.

YOU CAN NOT TELL ME.... That Mo Taylor, and a first round pick could not bring back more.

This is CD of the past. For every good deal he makes, he then makes a STUPID ONE!

    exactly...

Vin adn Moochies contracts come off before Mos woudl have....and we got a good backup point in James....and the pick is a future one that will probably have protections attached...

this was the best we were going to be able to get for Mo...that is all there is to it.

Now....place your bets on who gets cut and who we keep.

Hooray that it's a 2006 or 2007. So long as McGrady and Yao don't both come down with mono that season, the future first may as well be a 2nd rounder (the age limit will result in two years of shallow drafts, and we should be picking at position 20 or higher from here on out).

I'll live with Mooch and Vin for a year. Whatever. They're tradable come summer (along with Spoon, Wesley, etc). I think we may be very active in shaping our roster soon.

    Good day of trades!

This is not a bad trade, people. The Rockets will get a ton of cap relief after next season, which is not bad timing considering that's when Yao's new contract will kick in. If they can sign a decent PF in 2006, they'll be in great shape.

Sorry! Forgot that it still will count for cap.

Funny that I was saying we could have used some moochie in another thread. Maybe CD read that?

In light of the Webber trade. I'll say Houstonians are nicest people...in NBA.

How would we have gotten more? Taylor might be a legitimate low-post threat, but he's been sitting on the bench all season. He's signed through the 2007 season on a super-fat contract.

His trade value isn't exactly very high right now. We gave up his contract plus a low first round pick for two smaller contracts that expire a year earlier. What more could we have done? Besides... although it's unlikely, given another change in scenery, Vin Baker might actually be able to contribute a bit.

So is it clear that Moochie comes off the books a year sooner than Mo would have?

Vin Baker's contract ends in 2005/6

Moochie's ends in 2005/06 w/a team option the following year.

WHOOOOOHOOOO this is gonna clear some cap room.

all wee need is to clear out Juwan and we'll be serious players in the summer of 2006

    ding dong MoT is gone.
