God I hate Moochie. I just made him the focus of all my frustrations with the 2002-03 squad. The turnovers. The shotclock violations. The seemingly brainless play. Getting rid of Moochie was one of my happiest days in Rockets fandom... the start of something new! And now... when I genuinely, genuinely like our team... Moochie returns to poison it!
considering mo would never be a productive player for us again, trading him for 2 unproductive players with shorter contracts helps even if it's just a little. i can't see why anyone would have a problem with this. getting something of real on the court value for mo was not an option, no one is that stupid. great day and great season so far by CD. he's been blasted in the past but some people owe him an apology. i still can't believe we pulled out mike james, this guy is super fast and an already great defender. wait until jvg gets a hold of him. his and the rockets best days are ahead.
What are you talking about? That comment was based on bad info that we gave away our first round pick to get rid of taylor.
It's funny to me that people seem to think the difference between losing our 1st rounder and getting NY's 2nd is the difference between a bad trade and a great one. Our 1st rounder's going to be about the 23rd (hopefully lower) and probably wouldn't crack the rotation. Their 2nd's going to be even lower. I just don't see it as the huge factor some people apparently do in evaluating the trade. I think it was the right trade either way, marginally better on account of the pick situation, but only marginally.
We are talking about the difference between NY having like the #23 pick (mid-late 1st) and the #40 pick (early 2nd) and US having both those picks. That is about what SA gave up (two very late 1st) to get NM and have the Knicks swallow Rose's contract. This is less than what we gave up to get James and drop deadweight Gaines. Considering the little value involved in the principals, the picks are not insignificant. BTW Mooch's contract will ends when MoT's does (we will decline his 08 option). Baker's ends 1 year sooner as surely he will exercise his player option for next year. We are talking very modest salary savings next year and slightly over 50% the year after to take on dead weight. MoT is overpayed, but not dead weight, unlike the other two he still belongs in the league. The difference in the picks that came out of the rumurs IMO make this deal a B+/B (we get a 2nd) instead of a D+/C- (we give up a 1st).
Talk about a TERRIBLE endorsement of Mo Taylor .... by both his old team and new team. I know for a fact that JVG called Mo a "lazy ass" to some people Thursday, so these comments are right in line. http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/22175.htm LOL ... Isiah already talking about dealing Mo in 2007.
No. Moochie and Mo signed in the same offseason, and both signed 6 year deals. Moochie's last year is a team option. The Rockets will have an option on that last year of the contract (06/07), and the Knicks will be handing Mo a check for 10 million whether they like it or not.
just wanted to say... after waiting (in vain) for the Rockets to help themselves at the deadline, they finally came through when they really needed to. REALIZE THIS: CD has always made a deal when he thought this team was "special." We really may have been too far away from being a contender the past 3 - 4 years. Remember in '94 he pulled the trigger on that Horry/Bullard for Sean Elliot deal but Elliot failed the physical. In '95 he traded O - Freakin' - T (that's O.T.) for Clyde (a move that most "experts" thought doomed our chances for repeating). Now he makes these moves. CD, Les, and JVG thinks this team is special. That's something to be encouraged about. Even in the dump trade, we aquired future cap flexability. That tells me he realizes how special the McG/Yao combo is which will allow them to make big moves in the future. GREAT, GREAT time to be a Rockets fan. p.s. Thanks for helping me forget about the (Dis)Astros.
Baaaaahhh!!!!!!! My eyes! My eyes!!! Holy crap... woke up and just saw the trade... Mooch back in the saddle. Holy crap... Jeez... I guess not the most glamorous trade around. Sort of a slight positive. MoT was out of the playing rotatioin anyway and even if we don't play Vin and Mooch, it does free up salary cap and MoT's whacked up contract. Jeez... Mooch does have entertainment value and he seems to have gotten along well with Yao before. He'll be the team jester.
Not to pick on you specifically, but we on this board tend to react immediaetly and unequivocably with out full knowledge of what really happened. Seventeen pages of "worst trade ever" and "fire Gundy" are typicall. Then we find out the real facts, or see the actual result then we are backpeddeling into an Emily Litella "oh never mind". And no matter what, we look like idiots as we do it. A lot of times there is bad or partial information at the beginning of something. Or we feel different about things after a time to reflect. It is ok to react and discuss what is in progress, but it is also ok to wait till it is over to write up the wrap. The absoluteless of your statement, to me, just made you a poster boy for speaking to quick and to loud. Hopefully I am not doing the exact same thing with my post, but with bad spelling attached. The old addage, let people think you a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt could be more often used on this board.
Could this trade be an attempt to get one of Yao's friend's from his early days with the Rox back? As for Baker I JVG probably saw another big fat Knick and couldn't resist. Seriously it looks like this trade was all for future cap flexibility. They could be positioning for next year when these contracts expire to make a big play for a free agent and when they figure after a year of Yao T-Mac and JVG together the Rox will be in posiiton for a huge season. The only problem I see with that is that for an overall old team I hate to see us passing up on a first round draft pick, especially when we just sent some second round draft picks to the Bucks.
I posted that before I realized giving up the first rounder was false and before I knew we actually received a second rounder. With getting James, gaining a second rounder, and getting $10 thanks to losing a year due to Mo's contract I'd consider yesterday a great day. I don't think we could have asked for much more. I'm sure that was the best we could have got for Mo and I'm not complaining, but I wish we could find out what other (if any) offers we received for Mo were. Pugs
Now Yao, Padgett and Weatherspoon are the ONLY players that were on the Rockets roster at the end of last season! WOW! I suppose no other team in the NBA has seen that much change in the last year.
