Isiah's rationale is simple: 1. Mo Taylor can still play, especially on the offensive end 2. Vin Baker and Moochie cannot play 3. NY is not worried about saving salary or salary cap space 4. Mo's contract is only 1 season longer than the 2 worthless slugs he gave up 5. The Knicks have so many picks this year and next who cares about giving up a 2nd rounder. From our perspective, we gave up a non-contributer and saved some money. And if you can save money and get a 2nd round pick for nothing, why not?
I hate to rain on the parade, but isn't Baker some kind of raging alcoholic and we know that the "little dribbler" is a fun guy, but he is horrible on the court. Money wise the deal makes sense, but is this an upgrade in talent? Talk to me.
I still don't know Mike James... he better be good and sing like Rick James! As for the TE, just because it expires right before free agency begins does not mean you can not do sign and trades before then. Don't make it sound like the TE was worthless after today, that is ridiculous. It was the largest TE in the entire NBA and is as good as CASH, something ANY team besides Cuban's would love to have.
Who cares if Vin Baker plays. We didn't need Mo Taylor and we don't need Vin Baker. It's a pure salary move with a 2nd round bonus- like a scratch off lotto ticket. Good trade for us.
Wow...I supported the deal when I thought we were giving up the 1st rounder. Now I come back and find that not only do we keep our first rounder, but we get a 2nd rounder from NY?? From the Rockets' perspective, Isiah Thomas just paid us $10 million and 2nd round pick for absolutely nothing. CD is the man....seriously
Yeah, I know. I was just way too elated to think rationally about it from NY's perspective (you give really good reasons for it, and I agree on all of them). From our perspective this has got to be the best deal that we could reasonably get for MoT. I mean how many teams out there would really do this besides the Knicks (maybe GSW). I guess it is a good thing that there are teams like the Knicks that are willing to take on lots of salary regardless of the consequences.
If the TE expires before free agency (meanig the time period in which teams can sign players), you can't do a SIGN and trade. You can't use it during the season after the deadline, so IT WOULD HAVE BEEN USELESS.
Uh. Wow. Wow. I don't even know what to say. Yes, that's exactly what it means. Sign and trades involve free agents. Free agents contracts expire the day the season ends. Players without contracts can't be traded. I can't believe I have to justify that. After today, the probability of being able to use the TE would go down significantly, as we can't use it between now and the end of the season. That leaves the draft area as the only time to make trades, which is usually a pretty light trading time. And New Jersey has two TEs of nearly approximately the same size.
man...how can you do a sign and trade BEFORE FA? You're obvisouly no rocket sicentist. EDIT: BTW, who the hell would do asign and trade for the TE? They would just not bother signing him if that was the case.
it's not an upgrade in talent but considering mo wasn't going to play at all, we're trading a guy giving us zero minutes for two guys we all hope will also give us zero minutes until their contracts reach the expiring phase next year and give us trade bait. moochie won't play unless sura and james and barrett are all dead and ward has two broken legs and baker wouldn't take either howard's or padgett's minutes if i'm the coach. and if we need an emergency 3rd pf i might turn to spoon first, though there would be nothing wrong with baker playing at that point. so while mo's talent is greater than those two, since he wasn't playing, it's zero traded for zero except we get $10M and a 2nd round pick. and for other people, like i said, there should be no reason for us to cut anybody. if you cut them, you don't get to use their expiring contracts for trades and yet you still get to pay them. not exactly a good situation. you don't just cut people b/c they suck. if you gotta pay them, at least make them sit on the bench each game.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH we got Moochie back?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo .......................
OK, it's official. Yao is the only guy who was with this team before this season. Oh, wait, we got Moochie back Speaking of a ironic world. But I like the trades. On the other hand, it's easier to fill small holes, when you have your big two set. Props to CD.
wow, i knew mo was kind of considered the last link to the past, but for everyone to be gone with one season. yao and padgett are the only two guys i can think of that were here last year. francis, mobley, jj, mo, cato, boki, pike, adrian griffin, etc, etc all gone. what a complete roster turnover.
