... and personally I'd take Moochie over Hot-Rod any day (well at least any day where Rod is 38 years old)

Now we can start the bashing of Vin Baker and Moochie Norris.

Maybe getting traded to a contender will jumpstart baker, you never know. He was on a tear at the beggining of last season before he had his relapse.

I dont know why everyboody is mad about the 1rst rounder being traded away. This move was purely a salary dump and you cant dump salary for free, otherwise we would still have our pick when we dumped glen rice. MoT trade value is very low and only Isiah would think about trading for him and he knows MoT has a huge salary.

i seem to remember moochie's last year being a team option. NIKEstrad's link seems to indicate the same. and hoopshype indicates the same. so i think there is a team option. even the initial article said we traded $18M for $8M which wouldn't be the case if it wasn't a team option.

why would we cut anyone? we got them for their expiring contracts next season. why the hell would we cut them when we still have to pay them? no expiring contract and we pay them to play for someone else? brilliant.

and people seem to think that every time a contract expires, you get that much cap room. like most teams, we're solidly over the cap, which means we'd have to shed 10 or 11 million just to get to the cap, and then another 5 or 6 million to have more cap space than the MLE. that's hard to pull off. even if we let all $20M expire, the cap space wouldn't be huge (with yao's presumed extension coming on board). and then you have to worry about signing someone.

it's much more feasible to turn those expiring contracts into talent via a trade like the baron davis trade. as far as i can tell, that's what we did. picked up two more contracts that expire the same year as the other 2 contracts we have expiring next year to give us maximum expiring contracts to trade with.

the first round pick is an unfortunate loss but is the price of doing business i guess for saving $10M. is $10M really worth a late future first round pick? apparently isiah thinks so. i really don't.

not as great as the james trade (which was essentially perfect) but still a good move.

OK OK, I think the more I think about this I AM HAPPY...

FIVE REASONS WHY I LIKE THIS DEAL!!!

    1. we STOLE a good point in JAMES and have him under locks for 2 years after this for very little cash!!

    2. we moved MOs fat ass contract

    3. we get a power forward that has a CHANCE in JVGs system, if spoon can play why can VIN??

    4. we get $10 million in cap relief after 2006

    5. we get a backup point that likes Yao and knows how to get him the ball

I would give CD a B for today...

    Taylor - $8.45 | $9.1 | $9.75

    Baker - $3.45 | $3.9

    Mooch - $3.85 | $4.2 | (team option)

You're right, I was just speaking in more general terms

Without the trade, we would owe Taylor
    $9.1 million in 2005-2006
    $9.7 million in 2006-2007

With the trade, we owe Baker and Moochie combined:
    $8.1 million in 2005-2006
    ZERO in 2006-2007

So altogether, we're saving roughly $10 million.

Why do you care? Mo Taylor was nothing to this team anymore, a zero. They got on this roll without him and will be fine without him. Baker will take his spot on IR more than likely and moochie at best fights with ward to be the 3rd point guard. The rockets got $10 million worth of cap relief for a future 1st(not this year's pick, a future 1st) which will help when it comes time to give Yao the max.

Therefore, they get a really solid PG they desperately needed along with getting rid of Mo Taylor's nasty contract for two smaller ones that expire a year earlier without giving up this years pick(which can be used for a young PF, or PG).

They get an A for today's effort, and I don't see why someone would get so upset at a nothing for nothing deal.

Well, since Moochie's contract can get eliminated after 2006 it makes the deal a little better.

Moochie, from what I've seen when they played he had some luck with getting him the ball... better than Rod could or Barrett can... I guess we will see now..

not to mention we get rid of a 1st rd contract for the 3yrs after that....and more than likely, the guy would be a Boki at best who would never see the court and eat up salary

At the end of the 05/06 season, these are contracts that will come off the books.

    Weatherspoon 6.3 million
    Wesley 5 million
    Mooch 4.2 million
    Baker 4 million

i dont know mike james' contract status

The only players we would have under contract would be

    Sura 3.8 mill
Yao 7.2 mill (if he is extended, i dont know if it counts for that year, of the year following)
    Tmac 16.9 mill
    Howard 6.4 mill

    -----------------------

    34.3 mill

thats a pretty nice number to start with.

if anyone is good at getting Yao the ball, he has a meal ticket with Rox. Why do you think we got rid of him? He was by far the WORST pg in the league. He still IS now after Rod is waived. Oh well, almost forgot Ward, he is right there with Mochiee.

610 reported Moochie is good through 06-07 with an option for 07-08.

    Is this wrong???

    Thanks!

You are going to be very disappointed. Moochie sucks. I liked him he was a cool Rocket..part of the team. But uhh..he is so bad. He better not play. JVG would like go crazy if Moochie played. He turns it over..he can't shoot..he misses free throws..he can't get offense started...his defense is not good. He's a nice guy though lol.

I think Moochie got the ball to Yao because people didn't really know how to guard him back then.
