Maybe the reason we run these same basic plays over and over is because our players aren't intelligent enough to pick up on a more complex system?

I mean the guards make a lot of stupid passes, and the big men do look lost at times.

Maybe Rudy's just forced to run the same crap over and over because the personnel he has out there is too young and raw to quickly grasp a new system?

BGM, you have a point, but maybe the coaches think they're coaching. They had training to install the "new offense" but with the injuries they couldn't. You would have thought though that you can teach a monkey to set a back pick or a monkey to pass the ball. This is basketball, by far one of the easiest sports to teach as far as plays, its not football. It shouldn't be this complex to teach grown ass men to set a pick, roll, then set a back pick or post quickly.

I still want to know when Taylor became all world on this team.

Jeff, you are way out of line to suggest that I shut up. I have respect for you as one of the senior members on the board and your strong support to the team and its community. You are failing grandly when you suggest ugliness and stupidity on my part. I mean, just the other day you came up with the suggestion that KT should not play SF because he is too slow. I did not highlight the hollowness of that statement. Despite all the respect, I just figured you had a momentary lapse. It had to be because you should have remembered that our SF's so far this year included speedsters like Rice and Williams. I suggested that KT was able to handle the position and did not see him having difficulty with the SF's in the west. And to graphically illustrate the hollowness of the statement, the Rockets played him at SF last night and he flourished. And on one particular play he posted up Marion and scored easily.

Talking about hollowness, your comment on how expensive the sweatsuit was just blows my mind. Sweatsuits are inappropriate, plain and simple, no matter how expensive it is.

First off, on dress code, I wear shorts, a t-shirt and tennis shoes practically every day of my life. Does that make me unprofessional? You can't go into any office or "Chili's" wearing shorts and a tank top, but they do it for every game. How professional is that? :) I wear what I wear because it's comfortable and I can. Taylor and Francis aren't lawyers and neither am I. Professionalism is in the eye of the beholder. You don't have to dress like you are sitting on the board of a fortune 500 company to act professional and it is a little ridiculous to suggest that someone's clothes determine who they are as a person. That's a tad shallow, don't ya think.

Now, DearRock, it isn't out of line for me to tell you to shut up for two reasons:

    1. Your comment about Mo being a punk and harping on his weed usage was not only based solely on conjecture on your part but it was pretty tasteless. I told you to shut up because you brought baseless accusations against someone for their infraction and you harped on it in such a way as to make yourself look like some authority on drug use, athletes and weight training which you obviously are not.

    2. Part of my repsonsibility to ClutchCity.net is to clean up stuff like what you said and to attempt to bring some clarity and sanity to an often insane BBS. Believe me, this is not the first time a member of this board (or a moderator) has expressed concern over the direction of a thread or an entire forum because of its posts. Aside from calling Mo a "punk" and a pothead, you referred to him as a bloated "cow" and inferred that he was overstuffing himself as a result of his drug use. Criticize players all you like, but that is pushing the limits of what is acceptable on this BBS.

As for KT, I stand by my comments. As the Chonicle said today, he may play some "de facto small forward" but it isn't because he is well-suited for the job. It is because when teams go big, the Rockets would like to have a taller man on a big power forward. KT defending Antwan Jamison isn't at all out of line because Jamison is a big forward playing the small forward position.

However, put KT up against Lamar Odom or Vince Carter (he's listed as a SF on the All Star ballot) and he's gonna get run off the court.

The league is re-defining the positions on the floor. There are teams using small forwards at the two guard (Wally Szerbiak) and power forwards at center. Their are point guards playing two guard and two guards playing small forward. Teams are not relying on straight positions like they used to. They are playing to the strengths of their players, whatever those may be, and based on the matchups on the floor. KT isn't quick enough to play small forward every night, but that doesn't mean he can't against other guys playing "out of position" if that's what you want to call it.

What is it about Mo' that creates these terrible, tangent-ridden useless threads.

this bbs seems to be turning into one hata thread after another. All I can say is some of you don't deal with losses very well.

DaDakota said it best in this thread, it is *only* good news that Mo' finish his suspension this year.

    Noted.

The idea of me not knowing about weight training, and nutrition is inaccurate. I did not say he was a cow because of his use of grass. I believe he is getting big because he has chosen to continue eating excessively or is unable/unwilling to control or modify his eating to match his reduced activity. By excess I mean you put on weight when the calorie intake is consistently greater than the body's requirement. I do not know whether he choose to not modify his eating habits or he is simply unable to. Since I do not know him intimately, I can only use the information that I have. His grass use is documented and that too is another indicator of lack of sufficient personal control.

It is all about discipline. I made the reference to OT because he seem to have a very sharp understanding of the opportunity he has and will seemingly avoid doing things to disrupt that. Taylor on the other hand may not be so grateful. This developing opinion of him that I have may not be as unique as you think. It seem consistent with the marginal interest he enjoyed outside of Houston, as a free agent. Earlier, the Clipper organization let him go and went aggressively after Brand. We got him cheap and without a struggle.

Is he a bad egg? I would not go so far. I am just dissappointed about what appears to be a casual approach to life which ultimately will continue to make him an underachiever. Where is Tony Robbins when you need him.

But you don't even know that he is overweight. You just looked at him, presumably on tv, said "boy he doesnt look skinny" and made the judgement that he is eating too much, has no discipline and doesnt appreciate his opportunities. It is such a large jump from a mere glimpse of a player in baggy clothes on tv that Jeff had to tell you to shut up. He may actually be AT the weight his doctors are comfortable with. He was never a skinny boy and I'd be more concerned if he looked a little skinny than a little fat. Regardless, as I mentioned, you dont even know if he is overweight so it is a pointless argument.

Further, grass use, like people who have a drink or two with dinner every night, does not necessarily mean there is a lack of discipline. It doesnt preclude that option (the person may be a pothead or may be an alchoholic), but in Mo Taylor's case, he made it seem like he was doing it responsibly (you're going to say how can it be done resposnibly, etc, etc...but if you find liquor legal and responsible in certain cases thatn the analogy is right there). Finally, I know many people (including myself Im not embarrased to say) who LOST weight when smoking mar1juana. While they do give you the munchies, smoking OVERALL makes you less hungry. Gaining weight do to the munchies is jsut one of those things people who dont know what they're talking about assume.

Finally, number wise KT is putting up the same numbers as Taylor. Nonetheless, I prefer Taylor's play as a starter. KT seems to follow up a good play with a couple of bad ones (for instance, that charge into Rodney Rodgers in the 2nd half - he had just made a nice jumper so everyone in America knew he was going to do one of his quick pump fakes, try and drive to the basket and then do some spin move - he didnt get that far of course as Rodgers knew the move was coming). Additionally, while both players know how/when to hit the open man, the offense definitely flowed more with Taylor in the game(especially in the 1st quarter). He would pass the ball early in the shot clock just to get it moving whereas KT has perfected the hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, run some one on one play almost as perfectly as Moochie and Cuttino.

Despite the relatively decent shooting percentage, I dont think KT's line (as a SF) was spectacular at all last night. I am, however, excited about the possiblity of Griffin being a 3, as the other thread suggests:

    Starters:
    Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Taylor, {center from draft who shouldbe decent as we really suck this year}

That would be a very tall, athletic, strong rebounding, quick starting 5 I'd put up against any team in the league-

    Bench:
Moochie, Torres, Rice, KT, Cato, scrubs

All five of the main bench players are starters this year (and although they suck and lose a lot, it is good experience and at least they hang in games)

Even if we dont get a top three center in the draft, if the injury bug goes away I think we will be a good team at SOME point in the future :)

On defense, you do not want Griffin playing the 3 because he should be in the low post and on offense you do not want KT playing the 4, he is blocked too often and finishes poorly. I say play both together like what we did last night. In fact KT was preparing to play the 3 when MoT went down. Last night showed no signs that he was out of position. Any confusion or missteps last night had to do with the different starting lineups, etc. In a settled situation, I fully expect KT to be able to handle the 3. Again it cannot be a bad as Rice and Walter.

I have to disagree with you on that. As a member of "Clutch's Crew" you are held at a higher standard than others that are on this board. I understand emotions sometimes get the best of people and everyone is human but there are better ways. I have read your writing and I know you could of gotten your point across some other way.

jeff or anyone else.. do you know exactly how the nba is going to handle the situation with when his suspension starts etc.. if they were smart they'd make him play in a couple of games before starting it.. otherwise when he is about a week away from being in condition to play, but technically could handle a minute or so a game on the court we could go ahead and activate him.>?

    Rocket Fan,

I don't see any other way they could do it than to tie it to when he is activated. Note, that hurts us, because we must play with 11 guys, and it still punishes Mo', because he is docked 5 games of pay for such a suspension.

crispee.. oh ok.. i was just wondering if they were gonna make him play in a few games before starting the suspension to make sure he is actually healthy.. lol as many injuries as we have now anyways i'm not sure if it would hurt us to activiate him.. since we have so many injuried players that we wouldn't have to add someone else to the injured list i dont think lol..

I'm not the first Crew Member to crack on someone and I'm sure I won't be the last. Clutch trusts me enough to give me latitude and everything I write on this board is colored by that. I would not betray his trust by getting out of line with anyone in such a way that would fall below the standards set on this site.

The fact is that it is getting increasingly difficult to wade through the din of bizarre and ridiculous posts in this forum. I'm not the only one who has complained about it. I get frustrated and I say so, but I hold back far more than I ever say.

Not to bring this back to a debate about smoking dope or anything, but I have a question. I thought in the NBA, you didn't earn a 5 game suspension for smoking dope until you got busted your 3rd time ... steroids you get busted your first time. Am I misinformed?

Jeff. judging purely on your reaction to my contributions in this thread, I would say you were out of line and missed the mark. You found yourself defending the indefensible. An example is your explanation of the requirements for professional dress. Basketball players are expected to be professionally dressed. This is not their office. It is not a handout spot. The league's standard for professional dress does not include expensive sweatsuits! In fact, up to now you have not concentrated or adequately responded to the central theme of personal control and lack of discipline. You seemed all bent out of shape about the punk word and the cow discription instead of the substance. As far as I am concerned these topics go beyond sports and are critical issues in life. It is all around us.

Actually you could have taken the opportunity to use your "the truth forum" to speak out against that kind of behavior. Mo T brought shame on the franchise and you are getting pissed about the punk word. Others even suggested I did not know whether the guy was overweight. A blind man can see it. I know you are no Anthony Robbins but you should add your voice in speaking out clearly about this sought of behaviour.

Should Mo's weight really be the focus. So the dude is looking a little like Two Sandwiches Hamilton or Excercise Bike Roberts!!!!

Dude has a blown achilles....you really think hopping on one foot is going to burn some calories for a man that size...Dude probably cannot swim either. Ya, the guy got caught with the Weederama and ya, this is probably the second offense, but his clothes, his weight....is this really a good topic.

But, just for grins: my recommendation is Jeremy's body sculpting solution that he pips on 610. he and his life partner use it and it sheds the pounds!!!

hehe My thoughts exactly. Mo Taylor is apparently the greatest player who ever averaged 13 pts and 5 rebounds but Kenny Thomas averages 13 and 7 and he's just waiting to get sent back to the bench... and oh by the way he doesn't make $48million and he's actually improving his body tremendously right before our eyes unlike Taylor. Mo Taylor's saving grace with some people is that Eddie Griffin can "complement" him well on the court which is pseudo talk for Eddie will get all the rebounds, do all the shot blocking, and do all the things that we all know Mo has never been able to do.

On the dress code, Jeff if you were seeking a big deal with a certain business would you show up to a meeting wearing shorts and a tank top? You probably wouldn't because you want to portray a positive, professional image of your company. What the players wear on the court is their uniform but if they're not playing they should dress professionally just like the coaches and other important personnel within the organization. If I were Les I'd be embarrassed that I'm paying players millions of dollars and they show up to work like they're going to a house party. I was very proud to see Oscar and Kenny on the bench with Rice, wearing a jacket and slacks when they were hurt. It just speaks to how they approach their job.

I agree with Jigga in that the offense is just more smooth when Mo's in the game. This is evidenced by the 1st quarters as Mo would just get the team off to a real fast start with 10 <b>effortless</b> points. Mo's game is simply more suited to a quick, team oriented ball than Kenny's. Though Kenny's shot is improving, Mo's is still better and he has absolutely no hesitation on his shot. If a teammate finds him open, Mo will drain the jumper, but Kenny tends to hold the ball instead of firing away. Giving the ball down low to Kenny is starting to resemble the Cuttino of last year, because KT is starting to develop the habit of holding & holding the ball, trying to decide what move to do. When Cat got the ball last year, it was already decided that no one else would end up with the ball on that play, as he would dribble the clock out and then make his move. Kt is starting to do that as well, and even though he is a good passer, I rarely see the ball moved around after he gets it because he will take the shot most of the time.

I think the main reason that most people like Mo despite his 13 & 5 avg is that there is tremendous potential in him. If you look at the stats for the 2nd half of the season, I'm sure that he averaged around 17 points because he finally found the groove with the team. He even went off for his career high in the 2nd half of the season as well. People look at his 13 ppg avg and wonder what's so good about him but when you just watch him play you can tell he is capable of much more (at least on offense).

I like both of them, but by no means is Kenny better than Mo. REmember, Mo was <b>in the best shape</b> of his life when he got injured, so who's to say we wouldn't have seen an increase in his level of play similar to Kenny's.
