Those refs were horrendous. I told my roommate that the Redskins were stupid for taking that timeout with 1st and 10 inside the Cowboys territory in the 3rd. "I'd rather have a timeout down the road and take 1st and 15 here," I said. If they'd have saved it, they'd have had a 40 yd attempt for the tie.
An interesting point I heard re: the time clock and Joe Gibbs. When he left the game 12 yrs ago, time clock was at :45. I wonder how much of an adjustment it takes for him to get used to it now. A few bad time mgmt calls by him last night that I feel hurt them.
This thread is depressing. Doesn't anyone watch football for enjoyment anymore and not because of some nerdy fantasy football league?
It's funny that this game really came down to how well each team managed the clock. Gibbs clearly lost in this effort. The officiating blew a couple of calls on both sides but that is usually the case and they usually aren't favorable to the Cowboys so we got a dose of luck last night. While we did some things well...that wasn't winning football in my book. I think we should have lost the game but I will take the win. I don't see how Parcells can be happy with a lot of that when reviewing the film. Yet, he seemed content to get the win. I suspect, however, that he has some butts to chew out when reviewing the film. Even with the 5 sacks by the defense, Brunell seemed to have plenty of time to throw the ball on most plays as noted by his passing yardage. I thought our defensive line was manhandled most of the game. Per our offense, Vinny didn't look very sharp out there yet he was explosive. Our running game is not getting it done for whatever reason. What happened to taking advantage of Larry Allen and Flozell Adams on the left side for the run? One thing for sure...it wasn't pretty on either side.
I do, but fantasy just enhances it all. I love going to BW3 on Sundays and having a real interest in nearly every single game that's on.
Geez, I'll take the win however ugly. The passing game is definately getting some work. I thought their running game wasn't so terrible with alternating RBs. Its a long season so I see this as some good small steps. Cowboys are 2-1 going into their bye week. SUCKS about hunter though. You could tell PArcells was upset when they took him off the field. What can you do? from the Cowboys website: Through all the excitement of beating the Redskins once again on Monday night, there was some bad news trickling through the Cowboys post-game locker room. Starting right cornerback Pete Hunter, coming off one of his best games of his career last week against Cleveland, is likely done for the season after suffering a knee injury early in Monday's win over Washington. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Hunter, who went down while making a cut trying to defend a pass, apparently tore an anterior cruciate knee ligament and appears lost for the remainder of the season. "The doctors were 90 percent sure" Hunter suffered an ACL tear, Jones said. "But he has loose joints. They want to confirm with an MRI." Hunter, who was able to walk off the field after the play midway through the first quarter, is expected to undergo an MRI in Dallas on Tuesday.
ima, with all due respect, sir, i'd like to recommend getting into a league in either nfl.com or sports.yahoo.com or cbssportsline.com or even espn.com that still allows you to get in, so you can see what it's like. I need to ask, however, ARE YOU in a fantasy league? If you are, forgive me for recommending it. I thought I'd make you see how fun it is to brag to the guys at work that the guy you picked playing for Seattle, whom you don't even know, passed for 5 touchdowns against the local team... gets you points and bragging rights. I have fun watching games that are not the TEXANS'. I watch that one for my passion as a homer, just like I would watch the ROX' games. Above all, it's a FANTASY team, for fun.
Great game...An instant classic...the last catch was great, but he didn't get out of bounds... Go Cowboys!!!
Yeah, I know. I didn't mean to come off all holier than thou. To be honest, I've never been in a league so I probably have no right to come down on it. It's just that I get a little tired of trying to talk football with they guys at work every Monday morning and having them say "yeah, he's on my fantasy team" to everything I say. It's the same thing with "the line" on 610. That Willie B drives me insane every Friday morning. Not everyone cares what "the line" is. Some of us just want to see some good football games. Anyway, back on topic.. I don't know how Dallas is 2-1 right now with their offense. Well actually, I do. Cleveland and Washington both suck.
Actually their offense has been pretty good so far. A few mistakes here and there, but nothing like before. It's the d that has been giving the cowboys more trouble, specifically the secondary. And the Hunter injury isn't going to help.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Vinnie looked horrible in the pre-season so I'm shocked that they've been able to even move the ball. Vinnie IF GIVEN TIME IN THE POCKET can still make some good throws. The only problem is he has yet to face a team that can consistently flush him out of the pocket. When he does, things could be very different.
Well as a Cowboy fan I am very happy to be 2-1. Neither team was sharp last night. Dallas couln't run the ball and Washington made too many mistakes (burning the timouts ccost them the game and Coles dropped several passes). I was happy to see the Boys finally get pressure on the QB. Both safeties played well (Dixon and Williams). The CB spot will need help especially with the injury. Giving up a 2nd round pick (which is the rumored deal for GB to give up it's CB) doesn't seem like too much especially since w have the cap room, even though the Boys are denying at looking at other CBs. Offensively we are in trouble running the ball. We can't run to the right side and everyone knows it (but I will say the right side does a better job pass blocking). Flozell and Allen are studs but not when the D is slanted to their side. I hate seeign Eddie play so poorly. A couple times he had room but just couldn't make teh first guy miss. WRs played great, Antonio's catch was amazing, Glenn did a nice job gettign his feet down on the TD and Keyshawn is still effective as a blocker even when he's not catching passes. We haven't had a TE threat since Novacek so it is grea to have Witten there.
Yeah, I've been surprised the oline has held up so well for Vinny so far. The oline was barely passable last year and it's improved dramatically. While it's true they haven't faced a dominant dline yet, they did play against a pretty good blitz happy d last night and didnt' make too many mistakes. I still think Dallas is still a middle of the pack team that needs some luck to make it into the playoffs, but they are on the right track for the future.
Is his name Mckenzie or something? If all they want is a 2nd round pick, I'd do it. The Cowboys got 2 1st rd picks anyway next year, so they could probably afford doing that, not to mention the cap room you mentioned as well. Then again, I don't really trust some of the younger secondary guys for some strange reason. (although it looks like Reeves has done ok.) I agree about the line though as far as running is concerned. I never thought about it much, but it seems like a lot of the successful runs are done behind LA and FA, although the holes there are starting to close up a little more on the left side. I only hope that Gurode can get back pretty soon and that maybe Torrin Tucker still is learning some things. If they can start creating some good holes, which is pretty much necessary if we want to run well, we can really start having good balance on the offense. We'll probably still lean on the arm of Vinny and the hands of Glenn, Keyshawn, Bryant, and Witten, but running the ball well would help score some points. The offense, in my eyes, is playing pretty well, but it still reminds me of years past where they had trouble scoring. They did pretty good last night for the most part, but they need to be a tad bit better when it comes to getting points to go along with the yards. I also agree on the performance of the pass protection. There were a lot of questions regarding the O-line over the offseason and the switch to an immobile QB like Vinny really put a lot of pressure on the line to pass protect well, but they've done pretty good thus far. Of course, we haven't played anyone like Philadelphia yet, but they look better than last year.
What was with that Gibbs-Parcells handshake at the end of the game? Does Gibbs have something against Parcells other than his team lost? I thought Gibbs totally disrespected Parcells as he shook his hand as he didn't face Parcells or make eye contact. He basically was already walking away and didn't face him or say anything to him while Bill was trying to have a word. I thought that was classless for a supposed great coach. How would you like to shake someone's hand who is turned the other way and doesn't make eye contact? I would say something mean to the person on the other end. Why even shake my hand you jackass? They have a picture of it over at the Cowboys site. Gibbs is a butt-munch!!!
I saw the handshake. Seemed like a diss, but Parcells was about to be surrounded by media. So Gibbs was probably just getting out of there.
