The only time I've had it was during my bachelor party last August. We tried to go back the next Sunday morning, but when we got there, the doors were open, alarm going off, but no one was in the place and no one had picked up from the night before. We left.
While eating that sandwich, please know that I had completely forgotten that my e-mail through here is linked to one I have not checked in a while. I responded to your e-mail from a couple weeks ago about you knowing someone for the job. Sorry for the delay, man.
Okay, I just tried this thing, and it is absolutely killer. It made the Rice Krispies treats bread (at least that's its tentative name), and then put down a layer of cream cheese frosting, marshmallows, and pretzels. Sure, it may not be healthy but it's a killer sandwich!
My favorite sandwiches are in Miami at any authentic hole in the wall Cuban place. Go there and order a "media noche" you won't be dissappointed.
Last year in a fit of inspiration I started throwing pork and cheddar together with some chopped up bacon on a roll. Also this weekedn I got drunk and started eating italian sausage, american cheese, and sliced steak on a hamburger bun, not bad but I had been drinking beer for 8 hours beforehand.
I go to a place called "Don's Sandwiches," they're $2 bucks a piece and unbelievably good. If you're going beltway 8 north, you turn right and it's about 3 blocks on your left, it's a free standing building in a shopping center. I like the ones w/ charbroiled pork inside, the ones in the picture are cold cut meats, it's still good but I like hot sandwhiches.
As far as cheesesteaks go, Jake's is the best. Make sure to ask for cheese whiz when you order one. Personally, after I heard about "lobster rolls", I've been dying to try one. One of my Northeast boys said he'd make one for us. However, if anyone knows where they make them in Houston, let me know. They sound like an orgasm on a bun.
Monte Crisco? About cheesesteaks, here's the weird thing: I like them, but not if they're made the right way. I like them with thick layers of actual white cheese. One time I ordered one that came with an orange cheese sauce - kind of like cheese whiz - and I was surprised to find out later that the authentic Philly cheesesteak comes this way. What's up with that?
Isabel, if you ever visit Philadelphia, please do not go to Geno's or Pat's and order a cheesesteak like this. You might get shot. As a fellow BBS-er, I care about you, and I would not want to see that happen to you!
i know what you mean, however, cheese whiz is where it's at for the purists. i have eaten a cheesesteak at jake's in philly and it was good but i actually prefer the ones in austin at delaware subs. i'm very impure.
You should try an Italian Beef from Chicago then because they use provolone instead of cheeze whiz (yuck). Holy Lord those are good. I'm actually surprised they haven't been mentioned. Also, if you get a really good gyro, they are tough to beat as well.
I can't remember the name....it's in a strip center, and I just know there is also a BBQ restaurant in the same strip center which is how I always find it. I want to say it's near Westheimer and Wilcrest.
