That was looking awesome, good enough to make a non-fans (like me) fans of the sport (there was a lot of momentum especially after a awesome women's bout). Then they end it the way it ends.......
She was stunned. If she really wasnt able to defend herself then she would have fallen down. In MMA, if the opponent is on the ground and can't defend themselves, that's when the ref steps in. Since MMA utilizes both a stand up and a ground game, a lot of fighters will usually set up a take-down by throwing a flurry of punches to disorient or stun their opponent before they shoot. In boxing, the ref gives fighters a standing 8 count and will frequently stop and re-start the fights so judging whether or not a fighter can defend himself is a little different. If a ref were to jump in everytime someone looked groggy, everything would end in a TKO. Fortunately, that's not how it works.
This is the first time I have really watched, I don't like the grappling stuff so much but the kicks and boxing, are fantastic....... This is like Kick Boxing on steroids. DD
i actually like the ground game...kind of hoping kimbos fight goes to the ground..wanna see what he can do.
For Kimbo to pull off something amazing, CBS /EliteXC would have to sign quality fighters first instead of picking up UFC leftovers from 4 years ago. Kimbo is an overwhelming favorite. Thompson is a giant can that's been beaten several times on pretty much on every continent except Antartica. Kimbo's got a solid chin but he got destroyed by UFC washout Sean Gannon a few years ago also.
