Oliver Luck's email is very sound. I feel his pain and I gald he is doing his best to bring all parts together. I think he is doing a great job so far.
We have emailed back and forth some since. He is very disappointed in what's happening but his hands are tied. He knows that the Mexican population probably won't be the ones paying for tickets, but he has to try anyway. He's a soccer fan. I just asked that he give us something that is soccer traditional and something to be proud of. I thought it quite amazing that he would even answer my emails after the first time. He's a good guy and will do a great job for 1836 and whatever they become.
A significant amount of people in the stadium will be Hispanic. An even larger portion of the TV viewers will be hispanic
Perhaps it is a question for another forum, but I'm not sure all hispanics are offended by the observance of 1836. Nobody from Cuba, Hispanola, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, etc. was affected. Only Mexico.
people still have open wounds about the holocaust, about the trail of tears, about the african slave trade.
Who protested the team name? I mean like, what specific groups or individuals? Nobody ever said this and I was curious if any enitity ever came forward
There was one professor at U of H and Sylvia Garcia, that's pretty much it. For the most part the Mexican community didn't really care, but a few people decided to make it into an issue on their behalf. And comparing a part of a country revolting against a dictator for their freedom to the Holocaust or slavery is pretty damn stupid.
Thank you... I think a more fitting compaison would be to the British. I doubt you'll find any sore spots among England's population over our independence from them. I would think not considering the Patriots and 76ers haven't had to change their names . But I digress... can't they think of another important date in Houston's history to use as the name? Some other important number perhaps?
They might not be british but i think they are of British Decent one way or another. Most of the hispanic here are being born here and are of Spanish Decent . Yes i know the majority of them are immigrants now but more and more are being born here and they will eventually attend games as well.
