Dude you fail to even comprehend King's message.

The point isn't that King was this saint (he wasn't, he was a moral hypocrite who committed mass adultery and academic plagiarism). The point isn't that black people are going to be thankful for "what we've given them." Or even that blacks are going to work as hard as you think they should work.

The bottom line is, would you rather give X amount of dollars out of each paycheck to pay for social programs and set-asides for blacks or would you rather take it to the streets?

The point that King is celebrated for is non-violent civil obedience. Understand the climate of the time. In the Middle East, in Ireland, in Pakistan, there was civil unrest and terrorism was a semi-legitimate political tactic. In South Africa, Nelson Mandela living saint was a leading figure in what he today calls a terrorist organization planning attacks on both white officials and rival African groups. In LA SWAT was being formed so that "white" LA would have a paramilitary force to deal with the Black Panthers and other militant black groups when the race war erupted.

King is the man who gave White America a way out. King said, we as black people will lay down that aggression and white people pay us quid pro quo by advancing black rights and help us economically. That's the contract we have to this day.

As for whether blacks are too entitled what do you honestly expect. Most of black advancement the past 40 years has been on the back of "give a black man a chance," often government mandated. If you were black wouldn't you expect that train to keep on rolling?

I think everyone is becoming to entitled in this country. Everybody wants something for nothing and it's really rubbing off on our kids. It's just sad because I've been to countries in eastern Europe and their public education seems to blow ours out of the water. These kids are learning physics in the 9th grade. When it comes to history they start with the ancient Greeks in the first grade! Then they move up to modern day history as they go a long. Maybe it's because countries like Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia have significantly less people than the United States. That's no excuse though, there was a time when we were on top and I'm not just talking about military and who's got the biggest truck. I've noticed that the United States as a culture has become too fixated on pointless material items like the newest i-pod. But then again most western nations are becoming this way.

Post above is correct, everyone thinks they are entitled in this country nowadays.

People of all races that play so easily into the stereotypes that said folks have developed for themselves are extremely annoying. White/black/purple etc.

Can we please just stop generalizing people based on their race and judge them as individuals. There are plenty of lazy people and it has nothing to do with race.

It's older generations as well. I've dealt with people who purposefully dodge taxable income so they can continue to mooch off the government.

I only responded with pictures earlier in this thread because of the overall stupidity shown by the OP and how easy he was to bait into responses. It's a shame that the true message of MLK will never be understood by bigots. I'm saddened to see how closeminded some of our youth is today even with the social progress we've made. Parenting fail.

With all due respect, saying "everyone thinks they are entitled in this country nowadays" is a statement as stereotypical as what you are complaining about. I suppose all the people I know who work their asses off to achieve are outliers.

This one time in CVS, I was walking down the shaving cream/razor aisle and these two African American gentleman were coming down the same aisle in the opposite direction; and when we reached the point where we would politely pass each other and continue on with our days, they shoved me so hard that I stumbled into the disp[lay cases and fell onto the ground.

    Why did they do this?

In 1967, I was slugged by a complete stranger while his companion laughed, who both happened to be White. Why did he do this?

Real talk? LOL - I am mocking this entire discussion - folks have been arguing about skin tone and race for centuries, enslaving each other, hating because they don't know what another race is like.

And failing to realize that all people have the same hopes and dreams.....

Man, do we need an alien space ship to land on this planet so we can have something different from us.

I grew up with a lot or racism. I use to think the south was pretty racist. Texas and all. And I had good reason mind you.

When my parents moved to TN, and I went back during college once with my sister, I was ripping on rednecks and how much this place sucked. It was raining. I missed the entrance to a store we were trying to get to, went in the next one. Raining so hard that I didn't realize the two parking lots were connected and got stuck on a curve.

Sure enough, a big gas guzzling pick-up truck roles by, out comes two rednecks with chains...fix it up to our car in the driving rain, and pulled us out. Offered them a beer and they politely declined as they were in a hurry.

Lesson learned. You can't judge the content of a man's character by the color of their skin. Where their from. How they dress. What they drive. Or whatever. If you don't get that, then you are living a lie.

You should have confiscated their redneck card, no true redneck ever turns down a free beer.

    EVER !

They do, if they don't Berkley would be 80% Asian instead of 45%.

    http://news.yahoo.com/asians-college-strategy-dont-check-asian-174442977.html

Plus, look at how many Execs are in the U.S. are Asian vs. the number of professionals entering the work force, don't act like there isn't a little bit of bamboo ceiling out there.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-03/breaking-through-the-bamboo-ceiling.html

Given the large representation of "model minority" in top U.S. college, firms and entry level corporate jobs, the numbers at the top are shockingly sad.

Most of those men did not die to end slavery. They died because they were poor and had to fight, because they supported their country or a number of issues. It is well documented that a number, if not majority of Union soldiers did not support rights for african americans. Indeed, in the north a common refrain was to ship them all back to Africa.

Make no mistake, the USA has had animosity towards African American's since the beginning. The issue is very complex, and neither side wants to take responsibility for the unique situation African Americans are in at this point in our history.

Still, share me the 600,000 dead line... it is played out as the million man march.
