Unless of course they finish 1 game out of the playoffs. You just hope across that many games they even themselves out. It was a terrible call. He tags Lugo on his knee. Lugo's reaction makes it all the more obvious that he got tagged. He looks disappointed and motions towards the dugout, than he realizes that he hasn't actually been called out he goes and touches home plate. I hate the Braves.
Even more amazing the ump never even looks at home plate when he calls Lugo safe. He has no idea if Lugo even touches home. That is ridiculous. I'm sure the Pirates will protest, but of course the league won't do anything about it.
After watching the replay, it is not clear that the catcher touches Lugo. Why the catcher would employ a sweep tag in this circumstance is mystifying.
Looks clear to me, and in reality, he should have applied the sweep tag, and turned around and threw to first for the double play.

That's what makes this so painful! Longshot, I realize, but to make the postseason we'll have to win the division and this game sets us back. Otherwise, the team in the leading spot for the Wild Card just so happens to be, you guessed it, Atlanta.
whats the difference between home plate and second base? becuase i've seen the same "swipe", and even worse, at second base and still get the out.
i kinda feel like he didn't get the swipe in... you would think the glove would flex or move alittle if he actually touched the base runner's thigh.... but thats just my opinion.
What I hate is the neighborhood call. Edit: The person turning a double play not actually touching 2nd base, but getting the out at 2nd anyway.
