i had a feeling halladay was gonna be amped for his first post-season game, but damn! he is a bad, bad man.
Can't say the same for the Rays, though. Took out Shields in the 5th and putting in the 7.32 ERA Chad Qualls to face Young/Hamilton/Guerrero. Yikes.
and he just gave up a 3 run bomb...after the ump missed what should have been a swinging strikeout. Maddon is going nuts
Down by 5... going to be tough to come back for the Rays. Again, Texas has the best bullpen in the AL and CJ Wilson... well: Edit: More hits against Qualls. Why is he in again?
Qualls will need to erase the entire 2010 season from his memory banks wherever he ends up next season.
Wow, not a check swing at all. The game and series takes an entirely different turn. Why is it that umps get worse come playoff time, even when they add two more?
How? The Rangers were up 2-0. There was 1 out at the time, and they got a hit after the homer so at least one run would've scored anyway to make in 3-0. The Rays did not score a single run the entire game. Unless you're going to go the emotional impact route, of course. It's impossible to argue with such an esoteric concept.
I'll go with the emotional impact route, if Young is called out then they may approach the next few hitters differently and stay in the ballgame mentally. Saying that, I agree, the play itself had little to do with the Ranger pitchers dominating the Rays hitters throughout the series. I believe if there is a play that turned this series it was the 1st inning yesterday, the Rays had the bases loaded 1 out and Pena at bat with a 2-1 count then the next pitch was ruled a foul ball off Pena's bat when it appeared to have missed the bat. Pena struck out and the Rangers got out of it, if they get some runs in that 1st inning then the series is probably completely different but with Lee getting out of the inning, his confidence and the teams grew by a mile.
