While I would have totally agreed with this at the beginning of the postseason, I'd have to disagree at the current moment. The Rangers #2/#3 just shut down one of the best offenses in baseball, while the Phillies' pitchers are getting hit by the much weaker Giants. It could easily be a different story next series (it always is), but right now it seems the Rangers will put up a 5-spot no matter who is pitching against them and I don't know if either of the NL teams can match that. And the Rangers are 5-1 on the road this postseason.
You have to keep in mind that the Phillies Halladay/Oswalt/Hamels shutout the best offense in the NL 2 out of 3 games as well though. I'd say the Rangers/Phillies series could be a tossup, but you have to respect the Phillies and what they've accomplished in the past few seasons. Now if it ends up being Giants/Rangers then i'd have to pick the Rangers as the favorites.
He's pitching for a team with a current payroll of 55 million dollars, not exactly the largest budget. They are going to have to spend alot more if they want to remain competitive. Lee is going to command at least 15M+ per season, and regardless of how much the Rangers offer the Yankees can/will offer more, they will never get outbid. I like Lee, he seems like a nice genuine guy, but I'd be very surprised and so would most other baseball fans if he wasn't in pinstripes next year.
That is true though that was the prior ownership and supposely they got a huge tv contract which should help. I'm thinking they have a 50-50 shot...
I don't think Lee has any intention of pitching in Arlington's heat if he can avoid it. Rumor was that he wanted to be a Yankee all along. I'd be pretty surprised if he ended up pitching for the Rangers next season, regardless of the outcome of this season.
i gotta say the funniest thing about yankee fans are the way they react to losing. bunch of yankee fans complaining about how everyone is hopping on the rangers bandwagon, oh we'll get lee in the off season, etc. i saw this morning online some yankee fan saying they wont watch espn because they dont wanna hear the espn haters gloat about the yankees losing. in what world do yankees fans live in? first, people arent hopping on the rangers bandwagon, people just root against the yankees. by the way didnt fans leave the park early while lee was killing them? secondly, talking about how you're going to go out and get lee before the season is over is pretty obnoxious as well. and the yankee fans that b**** about espn hating the yankees? thats gotta be the worst, how does espn hate the yankees? you're on their station every single day, if a-rod takes a poop, espn breaks in and talks about it.
I'm psyched that the Rangers have made it to the world series. If the Phillies come through, it will be my favorite Expo (Vlad Guerrero) vs. my favorite Blue Jay (Doc Halladay)!
Great run by the Rangers, out of the 4 AL teams I thought they were the longest shot but their pitching came through. Not trying to hate but I think if they play the Phillies, which I think will happen, then it's over in 5. Rangers have been hitting well but the Yanks pitching staff was a mess in that series and they took advantage while the Phillies haven't been dominant in the NLCS they have been pretty darn good. If the Giants make it, then I can see maybe 5 or 6 games, again the staff for SF has been great and hitting quite well, surprisingly.
I'm just glad the Cowboys decided to suck this year. As much as the Rangers are close to winning the championship, it still doesn't beat the sting of the Cowboys being 1-4. They're the MLB's equivalent of Lakers fans. Except their team could just buy their way to potential victories. And yes I hate the system more than I hate the team.
He's never started on short rest in his career. Will be interesting to see, if it goes to game 7, what the Rangers do.
The only DFW area team that I don't hate. I've been to plenty of Rangers games while living there (even when they sucked), and it's a great time for a lot of the people up here. Reminds me so much of what it was like in Houston when the Astros went to the World Series. With the way the Rangers are playing, neither the Giants or Phillies can beat them.
Wow, didn't know this. He would have to do it twice to pitch game 7 unless he starts game 3 instead of game 1.
Keep in mind that the Rangers offense beat up on both David Price and Sabathia in the playoffs already. Those are two of the top 4 likely Cy-Young leaders. Good pitching hasn't really slowed their offense as of yet.
