Is having a snowball fight with pitching great Randy Johnson a good idea?

Somebody do a photoshop of Cliff Lee dreaming of money bags.

He was gonna get paid handsomely one way or the other but he did have that rough stretch for several games in the 2nd half plus the back issue.

Rebounding late in the season and continuing to deliver when it matters most definitely helped his cause.

Sager and EJ are NBA guys, who had the great idea to put them as the primary play by play guy and sideline reporter?

EJ's fine. Sager sucks. He's even worse in his NBA gig. He's forced to act (and dress) a little less douchetastically when covering MLB.

How does it make you feel as a Indians fan? Sabathia/Lee combo probably going to soon be with the Yankees winning World Series while the Indians continue to suck. Really it just says how bad MLB needs maximums and/or salary caps.

Its sad, Sabathia/Lee/Carmona could've been deadly. Their not that bad thought, they have some nice pieces

You said it. I'm an idealist that wishes there were a hard cap in baseball.

Also, you get used it and realize that the same thing happens to the majority of teams.

Just for the record, the Indians have a relatively deep and healthy farm system compared to the rest of the league and aren't far removed from beating the Yankees and having their foot on the Red Sox' neck (with little help from Sabathia). They aren't as far from not sucking as you might think. The most pressing immediate concern is how Carlos Santana bounces back but they have a pipeline of talent.

The Indians know when to fold 'em so to speak and that allows them to occasionally gain an edge and compete with the big boys. They don't neglect their farm system or stubbornly try to compete every year. Maybe having two empires in their league forces them to never make those mistakes.

Asked how much it will cost to re-sign Lee in the off-season, Nolan was quick to the draw.

"I need to go next door and ask them," Ryan said, referring the deep-pocketed Yankees. "I think he's got their attention."

It's still a lot better than Joe Buck and that Sling blade Tim McCarver.

As a Yankee fan, I support a salary cap system. Keeping revenues to the players around 50%, the cap would be something like $110-$115 million, and the floor would be somewhere around $70 million.

Hello contraction! Goodbye Rays, Pirates, Marlins, Royals! Every team must spend $70 million, and they'll have to do it without the Yankee money pouring into their coffers.

i'm sorry...it's never ok to root for a Dallas team. you'll have to spend recess in the sub-basement.

I don't think it would require contraction. If everyone had a cap, it would encourage those smaller teams to spend. The Marlins aren't going to spend $100MM because if they do, the Mets will just spend $150MM. But if the other teams can't run away from them in spending, the Pirates/etc can actually compete and make it worth it to spend.

As it is right now, why spend a lot of money to finish in 3rd place instead of 6th place if you can't make the playoffs either way?

Bad logic. The Pirates, for example, have no reason to fear being outspent in their division, nor do they have reason to fear an inability to compete. The Marlins have consistently been one of the more profitable teams in MLB. Yet they consistently tear down their roster to keep payroll low. They are competitive with the Mets, Braves and Phillies despite their low payroll, and it is logical to assume that if they spent a little more they might be able to be the class of that division. They aren't interested.
