Hey 2k or Clutch can we sticky this thread for a bit? A new thread for the finals is probably necessary... but this one is likely good enough until then.
Sick to my stomach for the Twins, love their team and their organization but the Yanks just have their number. I really think a healthy Justin Morneau would have made a difference just not sure how much of one. Try again next year and hope the baseball gods match them up with someone/anyone else.
Brooks Conrad...WOW All those late inning homeruns you hit have been erased from existence after this performance. I will say 2 of those 3 errors had other things going on but still...
The Rays have all the momentum in the world but the Rangers have Cliff Lee going for them. It will be an interesting game 5 for sure.
They went into the playoffs with terrible momentum, they lost a bunch of games going in, doubt it had much to do with the Yankees having their number.
Well maybe but they were 1 game behind the Yanks/Rays for best record in the AL going into the final weekend of the season, had one of the better second half surges in recent memory and had leads in both game 1 and 2 of this series. Yanks have now beaten them 4 straight playoffs series losing only 2 games throughout that stretch so adding all those factors together...they have their number IMHO.
The Reds have their very own Bartman now. Stubbs probably can't make the play there but who knows... home crowd needs to be alert.
1st run came off yet another Reds' error. Cabrera makes that play 99 or 100 out of 100 times in the regular season. He had all the time in the world to make a standard throw to 1st. 2nd run off a semi-Bartman incident. The Reds could very easily be tied in this series, and tied or down only 1-0 in this game. Aside from the obvious bobrek rule which sort of negates my point but you know what I'm sayin... the Reds have really hurt themselves.
I go nuts everytime a fan at MMP reaches over the railing or doesn't get out of the way and then just has this stupid smile on their face. That is during a meaningless regular season game, I'd go ballistic if it was during a playoff game.
It's amazing... I understand that people don't think in the heat of the moment but I know that I'd be well aware not to get in the way of my own team in that situation. There should be a baseball IQ test for fans sitting near the perimeters of the field... and an expanded version for the playoffs.
Even if the Reds go down in this series, they have so much talent between their young hitters and pitchers that it's hard not to see them being the class of the division for the next 3 or 4 years. The Cardinals won't go away if their 2 aces stay healthy. Let's see if Garcia is the real deal or anything close to it. The problem with them will be salary-related once they resign Pujols. Not only will it be difficult to complement Pujols, Holliday and Rasmus offensively, you have to pay a lot of other players to build a balanced team. I don't think they'll struggle as much as some people anticipate just because of how strong a core of Wainwright, Carpenter, Pujols, Holliday and a still improving Rasmus is. That set of 2 pitchers and 3 hitters is the best in baseball on any one team with few teams having anything close. So the Cards will likely challenge the Reds if their core can stay on the field but because of the Reds' far superior depth of talent, I see 2-3 division titles for them in the next 4 years.
I have always believed that during the playoffs/all-star game type events a lot of the fans that show up aren't true home team fans let along baseball fans but just go because its the "cool" thing to do and have the money. These fans have no idea what true baseball etiquette is and could give a rat ass what their "home" team is doing.
Very true. To be fair, that's what it's all about from a business perspective but it's frustrating to see for the diehards.
The Phillies offense has been less then stellar in this series but their pitching outside of Oswalt has pitched a shutout. Their upcoming series will be a really good pitching duel, especially if it's the Giants on the other side.
I remember I went nuts in the 2005 World Series when the Astros hit a foul ball into the stands, and all the fans got out of the way literally escorted Crede to make the catch.
