The NYY got Cole for his nasty stuff. Now Cole will get nasty stuff all off season. I dont know if Cole and Correa were ever close, but if he is paying attention to what the NY media is fixing to do to the Yankees, it may make him think twice about his next destination.
You would never have thought this trend was going this badly for Cole with his last start against the Astros. He was dominant.
That start actually marked a recovery for Cole, from that day until Mid-September, he was rocking an ERA of 2.45 with a .578 OPS against. Then he gave up 15 ER in his last 17.2 Innings pitched, not counting tonight.
I don't know the answer to this, but wonder how reliant JV was on the tack? I'm assuming Strom knows. If he was does this keep the 'Stros from making him a QO?
Given that he was excellent before the stuff became out of hand... vs. somebody like Cole who was just ok but evolved to excellent.... I wouldn't have a problem letting JV make the adjustment just as every other pitcher has been able to do for the most part. There's also likely to be a universal sticky substance accepted by both MLB and the MLBPA that gets rolled out before next season (more likely if there's a work stoppage). Obviously the ump checks and regulating did serve a purpose... guys went back to doing what they did prior to 2019, offense was still sub-par in terms of batting average, but not at the historic low it was to start this season. Even Cole made adjustments after initial struggles. He had a bad end to the season. Maybe fatigue given the short season the year before? Maybe he's hiding an injury? Maybe people don't give Stromm enough credit for how much he truly works with these guys... not just before the season but throughout the season and within games.
The Astros didn't get in trouble for cheating, they got in trouble for winning. https://www.si.com/.amp/mlb/2018/11...ce-play-rob-manfred?__twitter_impression=true
I can't believe I am supporting a team that enabled federal crimes to be committed against us during the dark years.
Best part of this game is Joe West is umping and was said that hes retiring after this year. Hallelujah
